The New York Giants are 2-4 through six games which include being 0-2 in the last two. In those past two, the offense struggled to score points against the Minnesota Vikings and New England Patriots. At the helm, is rookie quarterback Daniel Jones who is struggling and because of that, has seen his NFL OROY odds fade.

2019 NFL OROY Odds

Player Odds
Kyler Murray (Cardinals QB) +160
Gardner Minshew (Jaguars QB) +250
Daniel Jones (Giants, QB) +400
Josh Jacobs (Raiders RB) +550
David Montgomery (Bears RB) +1000

Odds taken 10/15/19.

Is There Any Value on Jones?

Jones got his NFL career off to a bright start with two-straight wins in Weeks 3-4 and was even listed as the favorite for the award for two weeks after the quick start. However, since, Jones has come back to earth. His odds entering Week 6 were down to an average of +280.

Overall, he’s thrown for 921 yards with five touchdowns and six interceptions. That’s not great, but the past two games have been even worse. Against the Vikings, he threw for only 182 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Even though these stats aren’t the best, it only got worse when he went up against an elite-level defense in the Patriots. There, he threw for just 161 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.

Following several of his interceptions, ESPN talked to Jones, where even he realized he is making bad mistakes.

“I need to get rid of the ball and throw it away sooner,” Jones admitted afterward.

Those are the kind of mistakes Daniel Jones will need to improve on, but right now, they are continuing to happen so I don’t think there is any value on Jones whatsoever in the OROY race.

Who’s the Best Bet?

Gardner Minshew is still the best bet as he provides the most value. All the sixth-round pick has done since taking over is produce. He is having success and has helped Jacksonville win some games. Thus, keeping them in playoff contention after Nick Foles went down early in Week 1, which many thought was impossible.

Minshew has thrown for 1,442 yards, nine touchdowns, and just two interceptions. He has been consistent and has been reading NFL defenses well, and I suspect that to be the case for the rest of the year. Kyler Murray, meanwhile, has thrown for 1,664 yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions. The stats are comparable, but the fact that Jacksonville is winning games while Arizona is not is why I believe Minshew has the most value.

The Jaguars quarterback’s OROY odds have only improved week in and week out so the time is now to bet on him. Really, I think Murray and Minshew should be similar in odds so to get him at +250 is showing huge value.
