  • Odds have been released on what Eli Manning will be doing in Week 1 of 2019
  • Starter, backup, with the Giants, elsewhere, or maybe retired?  The betting options are endless
  • Want to see more of the ‘Eli Face’ on TV, well you can bet that too.

Eli Manning is the owner of two Super Bowl rings with the Giants. (I know it’s hard to imagine right now.)

There are even people out there who would make the case he could end up in Canton one day. But Eli Manning today is the poster boy for everything that is wrong with the New York Giants.

After another abysmal performance Thursday night against the Eagles, Eli now has the same odds to be talking about the NFL on TV next season as he does of being the starter for Big Blue come Week 1 of 2019.

Where Will Eli Manning Be Week 1 Of 2019

Eli Manning Week 1 2019 Odds
Retired/None of other options +150
Starting QB of Giants +300
TV Commentator for NFL +300
Starting QB other than Giants +350
Coaching Staff any NFL Team +500
Backup QB other than Giants +1600
Backup QB of Giants +3300
On CFL Roster +5000

Where Did It Go Wrong for Eli?

Well it’s been declining for a couple years.

In 2015, Manning had a pretty strong season with 4,432 yards, 35 TDs, 14 INTs and a 93.6 passer rating. Since, he’s basically fallen off a cliff with almost each of those stats declining the past two seasons.

Last year he finished with only 3,468 yards, 19 TDs, 13 INTs and an 80.4 rating. The Giants finished 3-13 and have picked up where they left off with a 1-5 start to 2018. Eli ranked 20th in passer rating after Week 5.

It’s not all Eli’s fault.

After all, the Giants were ranked 24th in offensive line spending to open the season and oh boy has it shown. Coming into Week 6, the Giants had allowed the seventh-highest sack percentage in the league – which means we’ve seen a whole lot of the patented ‘Eli Face’.

Eli the Broadcaster?

Ok picture it now.

Eli walks away from football after likely another 3-13 season and we think we’ve seen the last of the Eli Face. But then, he’s back. Back in our living rooms each week breaking down exactly how teams should play to achieve scoring less than 30 points for 36 straight games.

Wait nobody wants that. But then again nobody asked for Jason Witten on MNF either and we still got that. But c’mon who doesn’t want more of this?

Ok For Real, Where’s Eli Going?

I can’t see there being a clamoring for Eli the coach.

There is absolutely no way the Giants choose to bring him back as a starter next season. It’s unlikely he’ll even make it through this season.

He’s not going to the CFL. He doesn’t need the money (it woudn’t be much anyways), and he doesn’t need to rebuild his reputation (I’m looking at you, Johnny Football).

As bad as he’s been, finding an even moderately capable starting QB is often tough. So taking “Starting QB other than Giants” could be worth a bet a +350.

Especially when you consider he could retire but get the call to replace an injured starter in training camp à la Jay Cutler.

A play at +3300 odds to be the Giants’ backup could be worth it if you think Eli may stick around for the paycheck to mentor a new rookie starter.

The odds clearly look to favor Eli hanging up his cleats after this season and pursuing life after football.

But perhaps, “None of other options” could also include Eli pursuing a role on Dancing With The Stars.

He’s already shown he’s got a few dance moves in this year’s Super Bowl commercial, but…he may have to find a new partner given his recent icy relationship with Odell.
