Through two NFL preseason weeks, the Atlanta Falcons and Dallas Cowboys have rested their key starters. In the preseason finale tonight, it will be more of the same. None of the big names from either side will be on the field for this NFC matchup, and online sportsbooks believe that favors Dallas in the NFL odds.

The Cowboys opened as 2.5-point favorites, and that’s exactly where the line currently sits. They’re -142 moneyline favorites, with Atlanta coming back as +120 dogs.

As for the total, the over/under opened at 36.5, but has been bet down a point. Bettors believe that number is too low, as a whopping 91% of them are backing the over per the NFL public betting percentages.

How to Watch Falcons vs Cowboys

The contest is scheduled for 8 pm ET inside AT&T Stadium, in Arlington, TX, with NFL Network providing the broadcast coverage. Locally, the game can also be watched on FOX 5, with International streaming available through DAZN.

Who’s Playing in Falcons vs Cowboys?

Dak Prescott hasn’t played in the preseason since 2019, and this year will be no different under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer. Marty’s son is sitting his starters this summer in an effort to preserve their health, and to avoid showing any new wrinkles on tape to their Week 1 opponent, Philadelphia.

The Cowboys have an extremely tough opening month of the season per our NFL strength of schedule metric, so they’ll need Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens and Co. at full strength. Dallas instead will deploy a combination of rookies and potential backups on both sides, but that list won’t include first-round pick Tyler Guyton.

The Cowboys’ new left tackle suffered a knee injury earlier in camp, and has yet to play a preseason snap. He’s hopeful to be ready for Week 1 against the reigning Super Bowl odds champion Eagles, but there’s no guarantee. One rookie who will see the field is fifth-round RB Jaydon Blue. The former Texas back will make his preseason debut after dealing with an injury in camp, and is expected to compete for carries this season, given the lack of depth in the Dallas RB room.

As for Atlanta, there’ll be no Michael Penix Jr., Bijan Robinson or Drake London tonight. The Falcons have mimicked Dallas’ preseason plan up until this point, prioritizing player development and protecting their starters. We did get a good look at their two first-round picks, Jalon Walker (one game) and James Pearce Jr. (two games) in previous weeks, but both edge rushers will sit tonight as well.

With Prescott and Penix Jr. sitting, the starting QB battle will be between Joe Milton Jr. and former Cowboy Ben DiNucci. The latter hasn’t played in the NFL since 2020, while Milton Jr. has underwhelmed so far this summer.

Falcons vs Cowboys Picks

• Under 35.5 (-110 at FanDuel)

Despite the bulk of NFL bettors predicting a high-scoring game, I see things playing out differently in my Falcons vs Cowboys picks. Milton Jr., who was pegged to be the Dallas backup, has led just one TD drive despite playing the bulk of both preseason games. He’s completed only 55% of his throws and has committed multiple turnovers.

The Cowboys’ offense was outscored last week by their defense, and managed only 176 total yards against Baltimore’s second and third stringers.

DiNucci, meanwhile, has attempted a grand total of 43 career NFL passes, and has spent more time in the XFL than at this level. Both QB’s lack explosive weapons in the pass game, and are working behind sub-par offensive lines.

I expect points to be tough to come by for both sides, which will follow their trends from their first two exhibition games. The Cowboys offense has put up only 27 points so far, while Atlanta’s is averaging just 15 points per preseason outing.
