NY Giants Betting Analysis

The Giants enter play losers of five straight. Last week, they were embarrassed 29-3 by the Chicago Bears in a game New York seemingly didn’t even try to win.

Despite trailing all afternoon, the Giants dropped Mike Glennon back to pass only 15 times. Instead of trying to move the ball down the field quickly in an attempt to close the gap on the scoreboard, they literally ran Saquon Barkley and Devontae Booker into the ground. The running back duo combined for 148 rushing yards on 39 attempts, which amounts to a measly 3.79 yards per carry.

As for Glennon, despite the limited amount of drop backs, he still managed to take four sacks, throw two interceptions, and fumble twice. His final stat line: 4 completions on 11 attempts for 24 yards. You can’t make this stuff up.

This week, a wrist injury will keep Glennon out of action, meaning Jake Fromm will make his second career start. The Georgia Bulldogs product was a disaster in his first start a couple weeks ago, completing just 6 of 17 pass attempts for 25 yards before getting the hook. He also threw an interception and was sacked twice.

The Giants will be one of many NFL teams resting starters in Week 18, mostly due to injury. The most notable absence will be rookie receiver Kadarius Toney, whose shoulder still isn’t ready for action. New York’s receiving corps has been a colossal disappointment this season. They’ve scored only 4 touchdowns, and none since October 24th.

Washington Football Team Betting Analysis

Washington is also trying to break a lengthy losing streak on Sunday, as they’ve dropped four in a row. Last week, they fell to Philadelphia for the second time in four games, and their offense has completely disappeared.

Washington ranks 27th on offense per DVOA, and it’s shocking they’re not rated even lower. They’ve scored 17 points or less in five of their past six games, and haven’t exceeded 20 points during that stretch. Only 10 teams average fewer points per contest (including the Giants), while Taylor Heinicke has thrown more than 1 touchdown pass in just two of his past 11 starts.

After sitting out last week, staring running back Antonio Gibson should be back, but the Washington defense will once again be depleted. Their top two pass rushers, Chase Young and Montez Sweat are both out, as is starting corner William Jackson III.

Washington vs Giants Head-to-Head Results

Date Away Team Home Team Result
Sept. 16, 2021 Giants Washington Washington Win (30-29)
Nov. 8, 2020 Giants Washington Giants Win (23-20)
Oct. 18, 2020 Washington Giants Giants Win (20-19)
Dec. 22, 2019 Giants Washington Giants Win (41-35)
Sept. 20, 2019 Washington Giants Giants Win (24-3)

As far as the head-to-head history goes between these two rivals, New York has shockingly won four of the past five, while covering in each outing.

Washington vs NY Giants Pick

Unlike the last meeting between these two teams, this game isn’t going to sniff 59 points. The over/under is currently set at 38, and there’s an argument to be made that’s even too high.

The Giants have failed to exceed 10 points in three straight and have scored 14 points or fewer in nine of their 16 games overall. Fromm is nowhere near ready to play quarterback at the NFL level, and even if he was, New York would still prefer to slam its running backs into Washington’s defensive line 40 times.

Another reason to play the under in this contest is the slow pace at which both teams have been operating at. The Giants rank bottom-10 in plays per game this season, while only four teams have run fewer plays than Washington since Week 14.

Pick: Under 38 (-110)
