Jacksonville’s NFL Wild Card odds shifted from 2.5 to 1 and back to 2.5. The over has stayed mostly between 47.5 and 48. It resides at 47.5 now.

The NFL betting trends are interesting. 86% of the moneyline bets are placed for the Chargers and overall, 67% of the bets are on the Chargers covering the spread and 47% on the over for Saturday. Now, the betting percentage on the wagers lies at 67% for the Chargers, while 60% of the money also is on the side of Los Angeles.

Chargers Looking for Measure of Revenge

The Los Angeles Chargers saw a little of everything this season. They started out up and down with a 5-5 record but managed to win five of their next six games to seal a playoff spot. Justin Herbert gets a chance to strut his stuff in the postseason against a Jacksonville defense that has a weakness against the pass (28th in yardage allowed).

Herbert and the Chargers know what they must do Saturday.

Last week, the Chargers’ offense look a little off when Williams left the lineup in a 31-28 loss to the Denver Broncos. Defensively, Los Angeles took the afternoon off yielding 200+ yards rushing and passing. Williams being out changes things a little and puts the focus on Austin Ekeler and Keenan Allen

The Chargers’ biggest concern may be that run defense. However, one of Jacksonville’s bigger weaknesses has been running the ball at times. This Jaguars’ rushing attack is inconsistent and only managed 19 yards last week at home to Tennessee. Again, Los Angeles gives up the most yards per carry (5.4) in the NFL to the run. Los Angeles must slow Jacksonville down and keep the Jaguars more one-dimensional.

As for Justin Herbert, he needs to get Ekeler and Allen involved in the game early. Those two weapons figure to keep Jacksonville on their toes and could figure in your Chargers vs Jaguars props.

Some Pressure Still On Jaguars

Can the Jacksonville Jaguars exhale yet? That answer is no. Jacksonville won five straight games with no margin of error to make the postseason. Now, they have a home game versus the Los Angeles Chargers. Some pressure still lies on them.

Not facing Mike Williams helps but is also not a game-changer for Jacksonville when it comes to your Chargers vs Jaguars picks. Jacksonville must run the ball much better if they want to advance to the divisional round.

Needless to say, 14 carries for 19 yards is not going to get the job done on Saturday night.

Again, this week is problematic as Jacksonville needs to contain Justin Herbert early (Los Angeles ranks third in passing yardage). If Herbert gets in a rhythm, it will be a long day for the Jaguars’ defense.

Jacksonville ranks 12th in points yielded but 24th in yardage allowed (28th again passing). The Jaguars cannot give up those 15+ yard passing plays as that will set up the run and short passing game.

Finally, Trevor Lawrence needs to avoid mistakes and missed opportunities. Lawrence had several chances to give Jacksonville a bigger cushion last week and squandered them.

Chargers vs Jaguars Prediction

This game expects to key in on miscues.

Now, watching two gunslinging quarterbacks will be quite exciting and this game figures to come down to the last possession. Expect a better effort from both teams compared to last week for your Chargers vs Jaguars predictions. Looking toward the over may not be a bad option if it stays at 47.5. Watch the numbers here, but the Chargers are that one team who thrives on one-possession games.

The Pick: Los Angeles Chargers -2.5 (-110)

2022 Record: 12-6; Overall: 12-6, +5.5 units
