How Vikings and Saints Have Fared

The Minnesota Vikings have been somewhat of a mixed bag through their first three contests. In Week 1, they controlled the game, handily taking care of NFC North rival Green Bay 23-7. Then they laid an egg on Monday Night Football, easily getting disposed of 24-7 by the Eagles. They needed a big fourth-quarter comeback to erase a ten-point deficit and scored the game-winning TD with less than a minute to play versus Detroit.

The Saints, meanwhile, rallied from a 16-point deficit in the fourth quarter Week 1 to Atlanta, but that’s been their only victory of the campaign. Their next two games have featured two NFC South losses to the Buccaneers and Panthers, where they could only muster a total of 24 combined points.

According to Pro Football Focus, the Vikes are the fourth-ranked team through three weeks (fourth on offense, 11th on defense), while down in the Bayou, they’re 13th overall, as they’re twelfth on offense and 14th on D.

Vikings vs Saints Injury Report

Minnesota will have a relatively clean bill of health, so they’ll have plenty of players to choose from for your Vikings vs Saints props. Only CB Andrew Booth Jr is listed as doubtful, with linebacker Za’Darius Smith questionable.

All other Vikings on this week’s injury report — safety Harrison Smith (concussion), running back Dalvin Cook (shoulder), fullback CJ Ham (foot) and linebacker Eric Kendricks (toe) — did not receive a designation and are expected to be available.

The Saints aren’t so lucky. They ruled out safety Marcus Maye (rib), guard Andrus Peat (concussion) and receiver Michael Thomas (foot). It doesn’t end there – Jameis Winston (back and ankle) is doubtful, with Alvin Kamara and Jarvis Landry questionable.

75% of bets have been placed in picks against the spread for Minnesota to cover, with a near-even split on the over/under in Vikings vs Saints NFL betting trends, with 72% of bets placed on Minny to win on the moneyline.

Vikings vs Saints Prediction

Both of these teams have been difficult to figure out through three weeks. Just when you think you have them figured out, they do the exact opposite. Despite them being a Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde team, the Vikings should be able to cover the 3-point spread, particularly if Winston can’t go (Andy Dalton is expected to start).

In their last three regular season meetings, the two squads have combined for 85, 50 and 48 points, which would cover the 41.5 points needed.

Six of the last eight Saints contests, however, have gone under the listed 41.5 total. The most points the Vikes have scored this year is 28, and New Orleans has just 24 total points the last two weeks, and that’s with their starting QB.

The Pick:

  • Vikings -3 (-112); 1.5 units to win 1.33 units
  • UNDER 41.5 (-109) 1.5 units to win 1.38 units

2022 record: 4-3; +1.02 units
