NFL Week 10 Opening Lines and Spreads

The pandemic-affected NFL season reaches double digits, as Week 10 begins Thursday night when the Tennessee Titans visit the Indianapolis Colts.

The opening lines have been released for all 14 games on the Week 10 docket. So let’s take an early look at the NFL odds.

Packers Large Favorites

The Green Bay Packers are the biggest favorites on the board as 14-point home choices over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Packers (6-2) rolled to a 34-17 victory over the undermanned 49ers on Thursday night at San Francisco as six-point favorites.

Aaron Rodgers threw for 305 yards and four touchdowns, two of them going to Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Davante Adams had 10 catches for 173 yards and a score.

Seven-point underdogs, the Jaguars (1-7) lost their seventh straight game Sunday as they fell at home 27-25 to the Texans. Houston also entered the game with only one win.

Jacksonville gave up touchdown passes of 57 and 77 yards to Deshaun Watson, who finished with 281 yards.

Little and Big

The shortest line is one point. That is what the Los Angeles Rams are favored by at home against the Seattle Seahawks.

While the Rams-Seahawks game has the smallest spread, it has the largest over/under at 55.5 points.

The Seahawks (6-2) fell 44-34 to the Bills in Buffalo on Sunday. It was Seattle’s second loss in their last three games following a 5-0 start.

Russell Wilson, the leading candidate for NFL MVP, had a rough afternoon. He was sacked five times, threw two interceptions and lost two fumbles.

Meanwhile, the Rams (5-3) had a bye this week after losing on the road to the Miami Dolphins 28-17 in Week 8. It was also Los Angeles’ second loss in its last three games.

The over/under is high despite the Rams allowing just 19.3 points a game, the third-best mark in the NFL.

Conversely, the Seahawks seemingly play high-scoring affairs every week as they lead the league in points for with a 34.3 average, but are allowing 30.4 ppg.

Sunday Night Defensive Battle?

The primetime game next Sunday night pits the Baltimore Ravens at the New England Patriots.

However, it may not be a barnburner, which the over/under of 41 points suggests. That is also the number for the game between the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants at the Meadowlands.

The Ravens won a low-scoring affair on the road Sunday as they defeated the Colts 24-10. The Ravens are averaging a healthy 28.7 points a game but are giving up just 17.8.

The Patriots, who visit the New York Jets on Monday night, have averages of 19.4 points for and 23.9 against.

The Eagles, who had a bye this weekend, edged the Giants 22-21 at home in Week 7. Philadelphia is averaging 23.2 points scored and 25.6 points allowed a game.

Following their 23-20 win over the Washington Football team on the road Sunday, the Giants are averaging 18.6 points scored and 24.3 allowed.

Line Changes?

One of the opening lines that seems off is the Dolphins being favored by only 1.5 points at home against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Miami (5-3) notched an impressive road win Sunday over the Arizona Cardinals as six-point underdogs. It was also the fourth straight victory for the Dolphins.

The Chargers (2-6) took their sixth loss in seven games, losing a 31-26 heartbreaker to the visiting Los Angeles Raiders as one-point underdogs.

It also seems likely that the 5.5-point spread by which the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are favored on the road against the Carolina Panthers could grow. As always, the public loves to back Tom Brady.

The Buccaneers took a 6-2 record into Sunday night’s game against the Saints at New Orleans.

The Panthers (3-6) saw their losing streak reach four games Sunday as they fell to 33-31 on the road to the Kansas City Chiefs at 10-point dogs.
