With the two teams at opposite ends of the standings, it’s understandable that the Bills are heavy home favorites. Buffalo has been riding high with a three-game win-streak, covering in two of those. They were on a run of three-straight overs before the under hit in Week 17.

Although their overall record isn’t impressive, the Jets have covered in three straight. NFL public money predictably isn’t showing them much faith outright, but they’re over 60% on both bets and handle when it comes to the spread.

Jets vs Bills Injury Report

While the Jets are playing for pride, the Bills are playing for home field advantage next weekend. That’s why you won’t find Buffalo among the NFL teams resting starters in Week 18.

As of 8:00 pm EST on Friday evening, Buffalo didn’t have any players on the Covid-19/Reserve. The Jets placed Jarrad Davis on the list on December 28th, and Sharrod Neasman on the list on December 20th.

Week 18 Injury Report

Jets Injury, Status Bills Injury, Status
Braxton Berrios, WR Quad, Doubtful Emmanuel Sanders, BUF Knee, Doubtful
N/A N/A Efe Obada, DE Ankle, Out

For this late in the season, the injury list is surprisingly short. Sanders is set to miss his second game in a row, but Gabriel Davis is averaging three receptions and 51 yards per game over his last seven weeks (he missed Week 16 @ New England).

Berrios’ likely absence is disappointing for Jets fans. The third-year pro has been coming on strong with two touchdowns last week and a kick return TD in Week 16. He’s seen 18 targets the last two weeks for 13 receptions and 102 yards.

Jets vs Bills Betting Trends

Since 2017, the Bills are 6-4 against the Jets. Four games have seen the total go over 50 points, while four have see the teams combine for 40 points or less.

Three of those games have come in their last five head-to-head.

Jets vs Bills: Last Five Games

Date Away Team Home Team Result Closing Line Total
September 8. 2019 Buffalo Bills New York Jets 17-16 BUF NYJ -2.5 41.0 (Under)
December 29, 2019 New York Jets Buffalo Bills 13-6 NYJ NYJ -1.5 37.0 (Under)
September 13, 2020 New York Jets Buffalo Bills 27-17 BUF BUF -6.5 39.5 (Over)
October 25, 2020 Buffalo Bills New York Jets 18-10 BUF BUF -9.5 47.0 (Under)
November 14, 2021 Buffalo Bills New York Jets 45-17 BUF BUF -13.0 47.5 (Over)

That December 2019 game is why late-season betting can get kind of tricky. The Bills already knew they were off to the playoffs that year, they just had to find out where they were headed. So that loss (and the under) was with Matt Barkley pacing the team for three quarters.

Fast forward to 2021 and it’s different. Buffalo and New England have identical 10-6 records. While the Patriots travel to Miami, the Bills get to face the Jets. And all they have to do is win and the division is theirs.

Bills Offense Clicking At Right Time

While you can say it’s been a weird season for most of the NFL, it’s been pretty strange in Buffalo for parts of the year too.

Josh Allen was a strong MVP candidate for the first third of the season. Then some weird results, including a loss to the Jaguars, knocked Buffalo all the way down to 7-5. That included that wild and windy Monday nighter. Although they would lose to Tampa Bay to drop to 7-6, that kicked off a three-game stretch where Buffalo’s offense has been red-hot once again.

Buffalo Bills 2021 Offensive Performance

Timeframe Record Points/Game Passing Yards TD/INT Sacks Rushing Yards Rushing TD
Weeks 1-5 4-1 34.4 1,350 12/2 5 702 7
Weeks 6-13 3-4 23.4 1,762 14/9 14 698 5
Weeks 14-17 3-1 30 918 8/5 8 639 7

Buffalo has seemingly rediscovered their identity over the last four weeks, and they’re proving they can beat teams in multiple ways.

Their recent success also runs parallel to Devin Singletary emerging once again to lead the backfield. In Weeks 1-5, Singletary was averaging 5.16 yards per carry, putting up 284 yards in five games. Identical to the team’s performance, his usage and production swooned during the same mid-season stretch to 3.98 YPC, with 211 yards in seven games.

Over the last four, Singletary has been averaged 4.7 per carry, for 287 yards. He’s also had two of his best receiving games of the year during that stretch.

Jets vs Bills Prediction

Since their defense was called out following that windy Monday night against the Patriots, the Bills have been playing mad.

Just because it’s Week 18, don’t expect that to change.

Buffalo has one job in this game against the Jets. Win. Outside of a first round bye it gets them everything they want. Expect the Bills to score and keep scoring to make sure there’s no doubt of who comes out on top. The Jets will chip in just enough to get us over 40.5.

The Pick: Over 40.5 (-105); 1 unit
