  • Usain Bolt is entertaining the idea of playing in the NFL as a wide receiver
  • The Jamaican will only take offers from two teams — the New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers
  • Bolt’s odds at online betting sites (50-1) give him a 2% chance to play in the NFL in 2019

The fastest human being on the planet is now ready to give playing WR in the NFL a chance. After both the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games, Usain Bolt received several offers to try out as a wide receiver. At that time, Bolt was afraid to give it a try.

You certainly can’t blame him for that. Heck, he still had the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in his sights. Why would Bolt want to risk injury and potentially the end of his sprinting career before he was ready?

Bolt retired as a sprinter after the 2017 World Championships when he finished third in the 100-meter dash. Wait, not first? It sounded absurd at the time, but his aging body was catching up with him. Perhaps age is part of the reason sportsbooks have the odds on Bolt playing in the league at a long +5000.

Odds Usain Bolt Plays in the NFL in 2019

Outcome Odds
Yes +5000

Odds taken Oct. 29th.

He’s Fast

Bolt is an eight-time Olympic gold medalist. As a sprinter, he’s the only human to win both the 100 meter and 200 meter titles at three-straight Olympic Games (2008, 2012, 2016). Add two 4 x 100 relay gold medals to the tally.

Additionally, he achieved these feats while obliterating world records. Bolt holds the record in the 100-meter dash (9.58 seconds) and 200-meter dash (19.19). Ridiculous.

In the video-clip above, Bolt is seen tying Cincinnati Bengals’ WR John Ross’ mark before Super Bowl 53, running the fastest 40-yard dash time in NFL history at 4.22 seconds. He did it in the limelight while wearing sneakers (not running spikes) and sweats. Extraordinary.

Is There Value in Betting “Yes”

Usain stands 6-foot-5 and rings the bell at 207 pounds. He’d be a huge target in the league, but he could stand to gain some weight. There are many other impediments to him playing in the NFL in 2019.

To start, he’s only considering the Patriots and Packers as matches. Plus, we’re talking about running precise routes, violent contact and pass-catching ability in this league. We can’t determine how he’ll perform taking on any of the above.

It’s utterly clear to me that there’s absolutely no value in betting “Yes” to Bolt playing a snap in the NFL this season. But you can’t bet on “No,” so this is just a stay away.

My Pick: No
