It’s been a rough year in terms of the valuation of NFL running backs, yet the solid favorite to win in the NFL Rookie of the Year odds is a running back. Bijan Robinson, the first-round draft choice of the Atlanta Falcons, is the +275 chalk to be the winner in the NFL OROY odds.
Should he win, Robinson will end a four-year drought for players who play his position. The last RB to be named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year was Saquon Barkley of the New York Giants in 2018. Just four out of the last 15 winners of the award were running backs.
Robinson will be seeking to join quarterback Matt Ryan (2008) as Falcons who’ve been named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Wide receivers have been named NFL OROY in each of the past two seasons. WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba of the Seattle Seahawks is the +650 co-third betting choice this season. Zay Flowers of the Baltimore Ravens (+1600), Quentin Johnson of the Los Angeles Chargers (+2000) and Jordan Addison of the Minnesota Vikings (+2200) are other wideouts among the top-nine contenders for the award.

Who Is the Favorite to Win OROY?
True, it’s an overworked phrase but clearly it would appear that Robinson is landing in the midst of the perfect storm by being situated in the Falcons backfield. Atlanta ran the ball more than any NFL team last season, 559 times. The Falcons were the league’s #3 rushing team, gaining 2,718 yards on the ground.
With second-year player Desmond Ridder at quarterback, being able to hand the ball to a feature back such as Robinson figures to become his bread and butter. And with WR Drake London and TE Kyle Pitts as other weapons in the Falcons offensive scheme, there’s enough variety to prevent teams from keying on shutting down Robinson.
Bryce Young (+450) will look to continue to current tradition of Alabama quarterbacks becoming dominant NFL starters. But before he can compete alongside Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts, the Carolina Panthers need to become a better team. Young’s first NFL year could resemble the rough go that #1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence endured with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021.
It was the year of the QB in the 2023 NFL Draft, but like Young, Anthony Richardson (+650) of the Indianapolis Colts and CJ Stroud (+700) of the Houston Texans also find themselves in charge of struggling offenses that will hurt their Offensive Rookie of the Year candidacy.
If you’re seeking a WR to keep their run of NFL OROY wins going, Flowers is going to benefit from playing opposite Odell Beckham Jr in Baltimore. Addison can slide right into the role of the departed Adam Thielen in the pass-happy Minnesota attack.
Who Is the Best Bet for Offensive Rookie of the Year?
Robinson figures to be a three-down back, which is vital to his Offensive Rookie of the Year campaign. He only caught 60 passes in college at Texas, so it will be intriguing to see how his pass-catching role evolves in the NFL.
In his four starts as a rookie, Ridder averaged 28 pass attempts per game. That means Robinson is going to get a lot of touches – certainly more than any other rookie in the race. Opportunity will be knocking for him and he will cash in by winning the NFL OROY Award.
