Chiefs Hot Heading into Week 2
If you were wondering how the Chiefs’ offense would look without Tyreek Hill, the answer, at least for one week, was resoundingly just fine.
KC walked into Arizona and laid the wood to the Cardinals, crushing them 44-21, in a game that wasn’t really close after a quarter and a half of play.

Mahomes is still in the elite upper class of quarterbacks in the league, and he showed it Sunday, going 30-for-39 for 360 yards and five TD passes.
Travis Kelce remains his premier pass-catching threat, as he hauled in eight balls for 121 yards and a TD grab, but Mahomes spread the wealth, completing to nine different receivers in the game.
Their backfield looked impressive and versatile, with Clyde Edwards-Helaire catching two TD’s, while veteran Jerick McKinnon and rookie Isiah Pacheco combining for 84 yards rushing and a TD on 16 totes.

Equally impressive was their defense, which featured three rookie starters. While the numbers weren’t draw-dropping, they held Kyler Murray to just 193 yards passing on 34 attempts. No Cards running back crossed 30 yards rushing.
Chargers Hold Off Raiders
In LA, the Chargers were powered by their own top-shelf QB, as Justin Herbert went 26-for-34 for 279 yards and three TD’s in a 24-19 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

It wasn’t all good news though, as 5-time Pro Bowler Keenan Allen left the game with a hamstring injury and didn’t return. His status is uncertain for next game, but the short week won’t help.
The Chargers were front-running in this one, stacking leads of 17-3 and 24-10, and left it in the capable hands of their defense.
The star edge rush duo of Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa wreaked havoc in the Raiders’ backfield all afternoon.

Mack had three sacks of Derek Carr, while Bosa added 1.5 of his own, including a blow up sack of Davante Adams on a gadget play in the fourth quarter. All that pressure helped the Chargers intercept Carr three times.

Chargers vs Chiefs Line Prediction
I think oddsmakers got this one right across the board in the opening lines. The Chiefs’ offense looks potent, but the spread can’t run that high with what looks like a premier Chargers’ defense.
Besides Mack and Bosa, LA features arguably the best defensive backfield in the NFL, headlined by safety Derwin James and Asante Samuel Jr. Their other big offseason pickup, corner JC Jackson, missed this game with an ankle injury, so his status is also unknown for Thursday.

They split the season series last year, both winning on the road, combining for 62 and 54 points. KC won a memorable 34-28 OT battle last time out, with LA taking the first meeting 30-24. In the only other Herbert-Mahomes matchup, KC won 23-20 in 2020.
There is a chance this spread could move to three points if Allen and Jackson are both out for the Chargers, so if you’re planning on an LA bet with those points, you can hold off till we get closer to kickoff.
