The Arizona Cardinals playing host to the Green Bay Packers. Yeah, the Week 8 edition of TNF should be a dandy.

Let’s face it, the menu the NFL’s been serving up on Thursday nights so far this season hasn’t been offering much in the way of sirloin. This week, though, they are giving us the league’s two hottest teams.

The 7-0 Cardinals are the NFL’s last standing unbeaten squad. Since a 38-3 drubbing in Week 1 handed them by the New Orleans Saints, the Packers have rattled off six successive victories.

Oddsmakers are opting to stay firmly in the corner of the Cardinals maintaining perfection. Arizona is the 6.5-point home-field favorite. The Cardinals are just 2-1 against the spread as the home chalk this season.

COVID Strikes Packers

Could COVID-19 do something no NFL team has achieved since the opening week of the NFL campaign and bring a halt to the winning ways of the Packers?

All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams, the most dangerous weapon in the Green Bay offense, was placed on the NFL’s COVID-19 reserved list and is out. He’s caught a team-leading 52 passes for 744 yards this season.

Fellow wide receiver Allen Lazard is also out. According to published reports, Lazard isn’t vaccinated for COVID-19. Since he had close contact with someone who tested positive, under the NFL’s COVID-19 protocols, Lazard must quarantine for five days.

As well, defensive coordinator Joe Barry is missing Thursday’s game due to COVID-19. Defensive backs coach/passing-game coordinator Jerry Gray is handling defensive play-calling. Gray served previously as a defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills and Tennessee Titans.

Green Bay was forced to hold all coaching meetings this week virtually due to COVID-19 protocol.

Injury Report

Along with Adams and Lazard, Packers starting left David Bakhtiari (knee) is also out. He recently resumed practicing.

Four starters on the Green Bay defense are listed as questionable for Thursday. This group includes left defensive end Dean Lowry (ankle), nose tackle Kenny Clark (ankle), weakside linebacker Preston Smith (shoulder), and right cornerback Kevin King (shoulder).

All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins (hamstring) and center Max Garcia (Achilles) are offensive starters who are questionable for the Cardinals. On defense, left defensive end JJ Watt (shoulder), nose tackle Rashard Lawrence (calf), left inside linebacker Jordan Hicks (toe) and right inside linebacker Isaiah Simmons (shoulder) are all on the injury report as questionable.

Simmons’ backup Tanner Vallejo (hand) is questionable. Corey Peters (illness), the sub for Lawrence, is out.

Trendspotting

Green Bay is 6-0 in games without Adams in the lineup. The Packers hope to activate WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling, their top deep threat, from IR in time for Thursday’s game. He’s missed four games with a hamstring injury.

Arizona is getting back star linebacker Chandler Jones (COVID-19) after he missed two games. Jones accounted for five sacks in the Cardinals’ Week 1 win over Tennessee.

The Cardinals are tied for first in points allowed per game (16.3) and fourth-best in points scored per game (32.1). Arizona is outscoring opponents by 15.9 ppg and outgaining them by 85.4 yards per game.

This is just the third prime time game in NFL history featuring two teams on winning streaks of at least six games.

Best Bet: Green Bay Packers +6.5 (-110), 1 unit
