- Home favorites took a beating in Week 3 of the NFL season, going 1-5-1 against the spread
- The Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins are all 3-0 ATS this season
- Read on for all of the biggest NFL betting stories from Week 3
Looking at the NFL betting Week 3 roundup, it was another tough go for home favorites. The home chalk was a combined 1-5-1 against the spread.
It was a different story with home underdogs, who fashioned a winning 5-4 ATS slate. It speaks volumes about how well the visitors are performing this season that the road squad was the betting choice for nine of 16 games in the NFL odds.
To start Week 3 off, there was a dreadful bad beat on the final play of the Pittsburgh Steelers vs Cleveland Browns TNF game that turned an under win into an over victory.
You wouldn’t think it to look at their record, but the Detroit Lions just keep on rolling. And touchdown runs by Melvin Gordon and Cooper Kupp cashed massive parlay winners for two lucky bettors.
Read on to see the explanation for all of these trends in the NFL betting Week 3 roundup.

Steelers Fumble Away the Under
Trailing 23-17, the Pittsburgh Steelers went into desperation mode on the final play of the game at Cleveland. Lateraling the ball to keep the play alive, the third Pittsburgh lateral went to no one in particular and was recovered in the end zone by Cleveland’s Denzel Ward for a touchdown with 0:00 on the clock.

Those who were feeling good about playing the total of 45.5 in the alternate line offered by several sportsbooks were crushed by this alternate ending thanks to the 29-17 final score.
Lions Dan Campbell An ATS Magician
The Detroit Lions hit the same old Lions tone for the first time in the 2022 NFL season on Sunday. Leading 24-21, instead of going for it, Detroit coach Dan Campbell sent in the field-goal team a 54-yard effort. The kick failed. Then the Minnesota Vikings utilized the short field to drive for the winning touchdown in a 28-24 victory.
Lions fans were apoplectic, but Lions bettors were grinning from ear to ear. As six-point underdogs, the Lions did what they do best – they covered.

Under Campbell, Detroit is 4-15-1 SU. But the Lions are also 14-6 ATS with him as their head coach.
The Lions find themselves in an unusual place entering Week 4. They are 5.5-point favorites at home over the Seattle Seahawks. It’s the first time in 27 games that they’re the chalk. They’re great as covering as underdogs. Can they cover as favorites?
The last time Detroit was favored, the Lions went to Carolina to face the Panthers as a 3-point pick – and were shutout 20-0.

When Melvin Gordon found the end zone for the winning TD with 4:10 to play in the fourth quarter of Denver’s 11-10 victory, it cashed a six-leg parlay that was a combination of moneyline and points spread plays on CFB and NFL games. The lucky bettor staked $65,000 on the parlay, betting five underdogs, and won $2,959,632.75. Claim your promo via a new betting site to bet your NFL parlays for Week 4.

Cooper Kupp Runs DraftKings Bettor to Daylight
Imagine requiring a Cooper Kupp TD in order to cash on an 11-leg parlay play? Well, that was the scenario for one DraftKings bettor. The player was already good on nine legs. To complete the ticket, a Los Angeles Rams victory over the Arizona Cardinals and Kupp to find the end zone was needed.

Considering Kupp led the NFL in receiving TDs last season and had caught a TD pass in eight successive games, it sure seemed like a lock. And he did score, but it was on a jet sweep and a 20-yard TD run. It was the first rushing TD of Kupp’s NFL career
The play was an $8.75, 11-leg parlay, and the payday was $2,039.59 (+18567). Check out the latest DraftKings Sportsbook promo code to make your NFL Week 4 bets here.
