  • Backed by rookie signal-caller Garrett Nussmeier, I expect the Chiefs to snap a lengthy preseason losing streak
  • I also like the over, a total that has been bet down considerably since the line opened
  • Keep reading for my Seahawks vs Chiefs predictions as well as the lines for this preseason clash.

The Seattle Seahawks (0-2 in the preseason) and Kansas City Chiefs (0-2 in the preseason) limp into action, wrapping up the preseason. Arrowhead Stadium will host this Week 3 battle at 8:00 PM ET on Friday, August 28. Nationally, viewers can find this game through ESPN Unlimited.

With the appropriate caveat that this is the preseason, neither team has looked particularly sharp thus far. Seattle dropped contests to the Cowboys (17-7) and Titans (19-16). The Chiefs have lost to the Rams (20-12) and Buccaneers (16-15). Perhaps the only highlight for either team is a 69-yard field goal from Harrison Butker last week.

While many top players will not play, even first-rounders like Jadarian Price (+800 in Offensive Rookie of the Year odds) and Mansoor Delane (+1100 in Defensive Rookie of the Year odds), both teams have exciting young quarterbacks to watch. I have my eyes on Kansas City’s Garrett Nussmeier as he looks to carve out the QB2 role.

Let’s look at the NFL odds for this preseason finale.

Odds for this preseason clash are perfectly even with a de facto spread of 0 and equal -110 odds for both the Seahawks and the Chiefs on the moneyline. Bettors do not have the fallback option of taking the points with an underdog, a bet I tend to make in the preseason. The spread opened at Chiefs -1.5 before going off the board on Caesars.

The total is set at a measly 33.5 points, tied for the lowest offered on today’s slate. The over has slightly more juice (-114 odds), while the under is close to even at -106 odds. The total opened at 36.5 before being bet down considerably to a shocking 33.5.

Seahawks vs Chiefs Predictions

  • Chiefs Moneyline (-110)

I am fully backing rookie seventh-round pick Garrett Nussmeier tonight. The LSU product is expected to get the full game to show his mettle. While 2025 was not a great season for the once-heralded quarterback, he has flashed in Kansas City’s preseason losses to the Rams and Buccaneers.

Nussmeier is currently third on the depth chart behind Patrick Mahomes and Justin Fields, but Fields’ inconsistency as a thrower could make Nussmeier the de facto backup in case Mahomes misses time with injury. Fields is helpful as a second quarterback given his rushing ability, but there is an argument to be made that if Mahomes goes down, Nussmeier would be the best option for the Chiefs to start games.

The Chiefs are notorious for not taking preseason too hard, especially this season. Kansas City has not won a preseason game since 2023, but I think Nussmeier gives them a realistic shot today against the Seahawks’ backups.

  • Over 33.5 (-114)

Continuing my faith in Nussmeier, I expect some points in this game – at least 34. On Seattle’s side, Jalen Milroe is looking for a bounce-backk outing after tossing two interceptions to the Titans last week. He had two particularly poor drives with a shot to win the game, taking a fourth-down sack before throwing an interception on the next drive. I expect Milroe and the Seahawks to perform better than that.

In terms of precedent, only one of Seattle and Kansas City’s combined preseason games have eclipsed 34 points: Seattle’s 19-16 loss to the Titans. That informs the total dropping from 36.5 to 33.5, but I think the number has fallen too much.

Seattle Seahawks vs Kansas City Chiefs Betting Splits

Taking a look at the NFL public betting splits, bettors are split on the moneyline. Seahawks bettors account for 58% of all bets placed compared to just 42% on the Chiefs. However, the handle favors the Chiefs fairly sizably. Overall, 65% of the moneyline handle is on the Chiefs while just 35% is on the Seahawks.

Like me, the public is on the over since it slipped to 33.5. A healthy 71% of bets and 64% of the total handle is on over 33.5 points. Under 33.5 is taking just 29% of bets and 36% of the handle.
