How to Play Super Bowl Squares
Even if you’ve never played before, you’ll pick up on Super Bowl squares quickly:
- Print the 10×10 grid. Each of the 100 squares will be up for grabs.
- Assign the teams. One team gets the rows, the other the columns. We already did this for you – the Eagles are the rows, Chiefs the columns.
- Set the stakes. Decide what each square will cost and calculate the total prize pot.
- Recruit players & fill the grid. Have everyone buy and initial their squares until all 100 are full.
- Randomize the numbers. After the grid is full, randomly assign the numbers 0-9 to each row and column.
- Determine winners. The winning squares match the last digits of each team’s score at the end of the 1st quarter, 2nd quarter, 3rd quarter, and final score.
Let’s say the Chiefs lead the Eagles 14-7 at halftime. To determine the halftime winner, locate the square that intersects “Chiefs 4” and “Eagles 7”. Whoever has their initials in that box wins the 2nd quarter pot!
Super Bowl Squares Payout Structure
The most common payout format for Super Bowl squares is:
- 1st Quarter Winner: 20% of pot
- Halftime Winner: 20% of pot
- 3rd Quarter Winner: 20% of pot
- Final Score Winner: 40% of pot
So if you had a $20 buy-in, your total pot would be $2000 with the final score winner netting $800. You could also consider doing 25% per quarter or other splits. Just make sure everyone knows the payouts upfront.
Best Numbers to Get in Super Bowl Squares
While there’s no real skill to Super Bowl squares, certain number combinations hit more often based on historical data. The most common final digits in football scores are:
- Zero (93 squares wins)
- Three (79 wins)
- Seven (77 wins)
Meanwhile, the numbers 2 and 5 have hit the least. So if you have Chiefs 0 / Eagles 0, Chiefs 0 / Eagles 7, or Chiefs 3 / Eagles 0 – you’re sitting pretty! But anything can happen, especially with two explosive offenses like Kansas City and Philly.
