Sometimes, you’re the hammer. Other times you’re the nail.

We were on the business end of a good old-fashioned whuppin’, going 0-for-4 on our Commanders vs Lions prop bets in Week 2.

Fortunately, there’s a long and windy season in front of us, with plenty of more opportunities to make some scratch.

And that’s what we’re doing today as we run down NFL player props for anNFC West tilt featuring the Los Angeles Rams and Arizona Cardinals.

LA put up a whole lot of points before hanging on the beat the Falcons 31-27, while the Cards dug themselves out of a 20-0 hole to beat the Raiders in OT. All this to say, there’s the potential for a lot of fireworks Sunday in the Desert.

It’s been decidedly lopsided in ‘Zona, where the Rams have won seven straight contests, but all we’re looking for are the right stars that will shine.

Odds as of September 24th at DraftKings Sportsbook and FanDuel

In the odds above, Matthew Stafford has the highest passing yards total at 268.5, while Kyler Murray is favored to throw for Over 1.5 TD’s. The highest rushing total is given to Cam Akers at 37.5, and the highest receiving total is Cooper Kupp at 97.5 yards.

Prop #1: Cooper Kupp Receptions

Why not start with the stat-stuffing Kupp, who’s been on fire to start the season for the Rams.

Through two games, he’s already caught 24 passes, including 11 grabs in the Week 2 win over the Falcons.  Kupp has also gone over 100+ yards receiving in both games.

Some caution here, however. During last season’s record-breaking campaign, Kupp’s lowest reception total for a game was five. That happened on two occasions, and both of them were against the Arizona Cardinals.

One happened in the playoffs, where Kupp had five catches for 61 yards and a TD, and the other was in Week 4, when he had five catches for 61 yards. Sandwiched in between was a December tilt where he caught 13 passes for 123 yards and a TD.

LA’s offense is Kupp-dependant, even more so as Allen Robinson has yet to get into high gear, and the run game slowly improves. Other than Tyler Higbee, it’s Kupp or bust. At plus-odds, even if AZ hasn’t allowed more than eight receptions to a player in a game this season, it’s definitely worth the splash.

  • Pick: Kupp OVER 8.5 receptions (+105); 1 unit to win 1.05 units

Prop #2: Kyler Murray Rushing Yards

Kyler Murray showed just how invaluable a dual threat QB can be while orchestrating a comeback win against the Raiders.

His scrambling ability helped the Cardinals convert a crucial 2-pointer to get within striking distance, and it also propelled him to the endzone with no time remaining in regulation. He then drilled an incredible pass into a tight window to AJ Green to get the next 2-point conversion.

It’s his legs that will be the focus of this wager. So far this year, Murray has surpassed this rushing total with a yard or so to spare. Last year, he crossed this total seven times, and twice were against these same Rams in the regular season. In an October matchup, he rushed six times for 39 yards, and in December, he ran seven times for 61 yards.

Such is the life when Aaron Donald is collapsing the pocket and Jalen Ramsey is locking down one side of the field. LA did contain Murray in the Wild Card game, however, holding him to six yards on two totes.

I don’t think the gameplan will be that tight in the regular season.

  • Pick: Murray OVER 26.5 yards rushing (-110); 1 unit to win 0.91 units

Rams vs Cardinals Touchdown Scorer Odds

Usually,  the only players favored at odds-on to score an anytime touchdown are running backs, but in this case, those honours belong to Kupp, who has caught a TD pass in eight straight games.

Higbee has also found paydirt with frequency against the Cards. He has a TD grab in three of his last five against Arizona.

For the home side, James Conner is dinged up with an ankle injury, but if he is a go, he’ll be looking to score a TD at home for the eighth straight game.

  • Pick: Higbee anytime TD scorer (+170); 1 units to win 1.7 units
  • Week 2 Record: 0-4; Overall: 2-7, -4.3 units
