  • The San Francisco 49ers (0-1) host the New Orleans Saints (1-0) in Week 2 of the 2024 NFL preseason on Sunday evening in the Bay Area.
  • The Saints took down the Cardinals 16-14 while the 49ers lost to the Titans 17-13 last weekend.
  • Check out the section below for our favorite picks for Sunday evening’s game.

San Francisco hosts New Orleans in the second preseason game for both squads. The 49ers come in with an 0-1 record, while the Saints came out victorious in their first preseason contest. The 49ers figure to rest most of their starters. New Orleans might play its first-string guys a bit, but don’t expect too much action for them. Who will win this game in Santa Clara? Tune in to FOX at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday night to find out.

Saints vs 49ers Picks

  • Under 38.5 points (-110)
  • San Francisco under 19.5 points (-120)

I’m going to keep this one simple. There have been 18 preseason games thus far (including the weather-shortened Hall of Fame game). Of those 18 games, only 4 have features 39+ points being scored. The 49ers and Saints both just played in games that came in well under 39 points last week.

Give me the under at -110 odds for this one over at bet365. I don’t expect either side to play their top players much. The 49ers might not play their top offensive guys at all (more on that in a second). I feel pretty confident in the under hitting.

And if the under hits, it’ll likely because the San Francisco offense continues to underperform with the backups. QB Joshua Dobbs had a couple of nice plays last week, but he’ll need more help around him if the Niners are going to score 20+ points.

I don’t love the price, as -120 odds on both the over and under for the 49ers’ point total seems to be a bit too greedy, but I’ll take San Francisco to come up short of the 20-point mark in this matchup.

This is expected to be a pretty close game. The moneyline is a dead-even split, with both teams’ odds at -110. The Saints are slight favorites against the spread, with New Orleans -1.0 at -105 via bet365. The 49ers at +1.0 are -115. The points total is set at over/under 38.5 points, with both the over and the under sporting -110 odds.

Saints vs 49ers In and Out

Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle all sat out of the preseason opener for the 49ers. I’d expect that to continue this weekend.

Christian McCaffrey is still dealing with an injury ahead of the regular-season opener. He’s far too valuable to this team to be put out there on Sunday night at less than 100%.

For the Saints, Derek Carr, Alvin Kamara and Chris Olave all actually played, albeit sparingly, in the preseason opener. We could see that trio for the first quarter on Sunday evening if that’s the way coach Dennis Allen wants to go. Teams generally don’t play their starters in the third preseason game, so if the Saints are going to get their top offensive guys some more work before Week 1, this is the time to do it.

Time is running out to hone your NFL betting strategies. Make sure you tune in to FOX on Sunday night to learn all you can about San Francisco and New Orleans!
