  • Two Philadelphia Eagles players – RB Saquon Barkley (+250) and QB Jalen Hurts (+300) – are next Super Bowl 59 MVP odds

The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles will meet in the Super Bowl for the second time in three years. Patrick Mahomes and company are slim 1.5 point favorites to be the first team to ever win three straight Super Bowls. Just once in Super Bowl history has a player from the losing team won MVP, which was Dallas Cowboys linebacker Chuck Howley in 1971. Mahomes is the favorite to be named MVP for a fourth time. Mahomes Poised to Make Super Bowl MVP History

Last Super Bowl against San Francisco, Patrick Mahomes became just the third player to win back-to-back Super Bowl MVPs (Bart Starr, Terry Bradshaw). Should he win it again, he’d be the first to three-peat as MVP winner, and also the Chiefs would be the first team to win three straight Super Bowls.

Should he capture the Super Bowl MVP again this year, Mahomes would surpass Joe Montana for second most MVP wins, just one behind all-time leader Tom Brady. He’s won nine straight playoff games, one away from matching Brady’s all-time record as well.

Saquon Barkley on Fire

It’ll be very unlikely for a running back to win the award, at least historically – you have to go all the way back to the 1998 Super Bowl to find a RB (Terrell Davis) lifting the MVP award. Yet Eagles RB Saquon Barkley has been a monster, setting an NFL record with seven TD rushes of 60+ yards in a season, three more than Adrian Peterson and Jim Brown.

He’s rushed for 100+ yards in twelve of his last 14 contests, including all three in the postseason. If there was ever a great opportunity to show the running backs some love and get their first MVP since the 1990’s, it’s definitely it with Barkley.

Jalen Hurts Not To Be Forgotten

Jalen Hurts was massive in the Eagles 55-23 dismantling of the Commanders Sunday, marking the most points any team has had in a conference championship game. He threw for a touchdown to A.J. Brown, and also ran for three. His nine all-time rushing TD’s in the postseason is most of any quarterback in NFL history.

That includes the last Super Bowl between these two squads in 2023. In that game, though the Eagles lost 38-35, Hurts was incredible, with a TD pass and three rushing TD scampers as well. The top-three choices are the clear heavy favorites to claim the prestigious award.

Super Bowl MVP Longshots Do Come In

Normally, betting longshots is fools good. When it comes to the Super Bowl MVP, though, it does happen from time-to-time.

Desmond Howard was Super Bowl XXXI MVP as a kick returner. Five WRs have won the award since 2005. Two linebackers also lifted the MVP trophy since 2014 (Malcom Smith, Von Miller). Only one defensive player has won NFL regular-season MVP, but ten defensive players have won Super Bowl MVP.

Super Bowl MVP Pick: Patrick Mahomes (+110)
