Vegas and New York tend to play low-scoring games, with all but one of 10 all-time meetings featuring six or fewer total goals scored. That’s something to keep in mind when it comes to NHL team trends.

Golden Knights Betting Trends

The Vegas Golden Knights come into Friday’s game on an impressive 4-0-1 run. In their most recent game against the New York Islanders on Tuesday, VGK managed a 3-2 victory thanks to a 40-save performance from netminder Adin Hill.

HIl”s return from injury has been a big boost for the Knights, although star forward Jack Eichel suffered another setback as he underwent knee surgery this week and will miss 4-6 weeks. Leading goalscorer Jonathan Marchessault has stepped up in Eichel’s absence, scoring five goals in the past five games.

Although Vegas’ offense has been middle-of-the-pack on the season, they’ve scored 20 goals over their past five games. The team’s elite defense has been the primary reason for their success this season, giving up only 2.71 goals per game. VGK sits second in the Pacific Division (62 points).

Aside from Eichel’s injury, the Golden Knights are also without William Karlsson (lower body), Shea Theodore (upper body) and Michael Amadio (upper body). The VGK injuries are evidently a part of why the team is a notable underdog in the Friday NHL odds.

Rangers Betting Trends

The Rangers sit in first place in the Metropolitan Division but have struggled lately, going 3-5-2 in their last 10 games. Still, they boast one of the league’s most potent offenses led by Artemi Panarin (29 goals) and playmaking defenseman Adam Fox (35 points).

The Rangers return home after going 1-2-1 on a four-game West Coast swing that followed consecutive home wins over the Washington Capitals and Seattle Kraken. New York ended the trip with a 3-2 overtime loss to the lowly San Jose Sharks on Tuesday.

New York enters Friday’s game with the league’s top-ranked power play (28.1%), although they went 0-3 vs San Jose last time out. The Rangers also have an elite penalty kill this season, ranking 2nd in the entire league at 28.1% when down a man.

Igor Shesterkin, Friday’s NHL projected starting goalie, enters this game with a 19-11-1 record, with a .901 save percentage and 2.82 GAA. Shesterkin has been fine, but he’s not playing at the elite level that made him the heavy favorite in the Vezina odds two seasons ago.

Golden Knights vs Rangers Prediction

Friday Night Hockey sets up an intriguing battle between Vegas’ suddenly resurgent offense and New York’s struggling defense and goaltending. Considering the Rangers’ home woes of late and the fact that they allowed five goals to the Knights just over a week ago, the underdog is appealing here.

New York hasn’t played well against the Western Conference lately, posting a 2-5 straight-up record in their last seven games against opponents from the West. They are also 2-5 in their last seven against the Pacific Division.

The Golden Knights, meanwhile, are 5-1 in their last six against the Eastern Conference. It’s always tough winning at MSG, but we’re backing a VGK team with a hot goalie and surging offense. We’re also taking the “under” for what should be another lower-scoring affair in this rivalry.
