Heading into the third period of Monday night’s game 1 tilt between the Kings and Oilers, Edmonton held a modest 2-0 lead. After both teams traded goals, Oil Country appeared on their way to victory. However, a pesky Kings team scored twice more in the third, with a game-tying power-play goal with 17 seconds remaining.
The Oilers took another penalty in overtime, and it burned them, with the underdog Kings taking Game 1 by a 4-3 count. That was the exact same score in their game 1 battle in last year’s postseason. Edmonton followed that with 6-0 and 8-2 victories.
Heading into the series, the Oilers were heavy -220 favorites to advance to the second round. Read on for Kings vs Oilers analysis.

Los Angeles Kings Betting Analysis
The LA Kings were going the way that bettors had expected they would on Monday night, as they were down two goals with under nine minutes remaining in regulation. Adrian Kempe scored for the second time in the third frame to cut it to one, then the Oilers’ Evan Bouchard took a costly high-sticking penalty with under two minutes left.
Two-time Cup champion Anze Kopitar tied it in a frenzy with 17 seconds remaining, then LA won it in OT following another Oilers penalty.

The Kings received six power plays compared to Edmonton’s three. They were held in check on the first four, but the last two were what did their counterparts in. In the regular season, they were fourth on the PP, so Edmonton needs to stay out of the penalty box to avoid more trouble.
LA has won four of five on the road. They snatched the over out of the jaws of under goal total victory, as it appeared less than 6.5 markers were going to be scored in game 1 before the late push.
Edmonton Oilers Betting Analysis
Game 1 was just the second time in their last 16 contests that the Oilers dropped a game, and neither of those were in regulation. When they have lost, Edmonton has been solid at bouncing back the following time out, having won five of their previous six times after losing.
It’s not a stretch to suggest Connor McDavid may be in store for a big game 2 also. Monday’s tilt was just the eighth time in 83 games this season that he failed to register a point (though two were against the Kings). In six of those seven occasions prior to the postseason, he had at least one point in the following affair (10 points in those seven games). He had 153 points in the regular season, smashing all of his competitors.
Connor McDavid returns to the #StanleyCup Playoffs after helping the @EdmontonOilers go 18-2-1 (37 points) since March 1 to edge the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Bruins (18-4-0, 36 points) for the best record in the NHL over that span. #NHLStats: https://t.co/Dt1oumW49F pic.twitter.com/ZOpOxN8gjC
