The Los Angeles Kings visit the New York Islanders on Thursday, and these clubs are heading in opposite directions. One team is searching for answers on the road, while the other has been tough to beat at home.
Artemi Panarin gives LA a top-line scoring threat, but Bo Horvat and Ilya Sorokin have the Islanders playing with confidence. New York sits third in the Metropolitan Division, while the Kings are seventh in the Pacific in the early NHL playoff standings.
Here’s my Kings vs Islanders prediction, plus the latest odds and two player props I like.
Kings vs Islanders Prediction
- Pick: Islanders to Win (Yes at 52¢ on Kalshi)
My Kings vs Islanders prediction is on the home side. Los Angeles is 1-9 over its last 10 games and 1-7 in its last eight road games, with few answers at either end of the ice.
The Islanders are 4-1 in their last five home games. The Kalshi Yes contract costs 52¢ and returns $1 if New York wins, for 48¢ gross profit before fees. That is a 52% implied probability before fees.
Kings vs Islanders Odds
The Kings vs Islanders odds at Kalshi make New York a narrow favorite. These October 21 quotes are Yes purchase prices; contracts settle at $1 when the stated outcome occurs. Fees apply.
Bettors are piling onto the Islanders, who have 86.02% of the moneyline handle and 72.97% of bets. The over has 88.80% of the handle and 89.37% of tickets.

Kings vs Islanders Player Props
I’m watching Islanders shooters for my Kings vs Islanders player props. The 2.5-shot thresholds below are analysis targets; a current sportsbook price has not been verified.
- Bo Horvat Over 2.5 Shots on Goal
Horvat has topped 2.5 shots in five straight home games, with a 3.4 average in that span. He’s over the number in five of his last six games overall, and LA allows 27.14 shots per game.
- Matthew Schaefer Over 2.5 Shots on Goal
Wrapping up my Kings vs Islanders props, Schaefer has been busy from the point. The defenseman has cleared 2.5 shots in five of his last six games, averaging 4.17.
He’s also over this number in nine of his last 10 games against teams with a losing record. The Kings fit that description.
Kings vs Islanders Team Stats
LA has the slightly better possession numbers, including a 54.5% Fenwick share, but it hasn’t translated to the scoreboard. The big gaps are in goal and on the penalty kill, where the Kings sit at 64.0% against New York’s 87.5%.
Darcy Kuemper vs Ilya Sorokin Stats
Kuemper and Sorokin are the projected starters, but neither has been confirmed. Sorokin’s .934 save percentage is a big part of why I’m backing the Islanders.
Kings vs Islanders Lineup Notes and Injuries
These lines are projected from depth charts, not confirmed. Horvat is projected between Simon Holmstrom and Kyle Palmieri, with Schaefer on the top pair alongside Logan Stanley. Panarin is slotted on LA’s top line with Alex Laferriere and Adrian Kempe.
Quinton Byfield (upper body) is day-to-day, and losing him would thin out the Kings’ center depth. Kevin Fiala (leg), Alex Turcotte (undisclosed), Jan Jenik (undisclosed) and Jakub Dvorak (upper body) are out.
The Islanders are without Mathew Barzal (knee), Alexander Romanov (ACL), Matias Maccelli (lower body) and Calum Ritchie (lower body).
