Two Original Six rivals are headed to a Game 6.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are favored to beat the Montreal Canadiens and advance, but there’s a lot to unpack before puck drop. Here’s an in depth preview of the match up including the best bet on the board.

Fans Expected At Bell Centre In Montreal

For the first time in 15 months, fans will be permitted at a hockey game north of the border. Every single game played in the North Division this season was played in front of an empty crowd, but 2500 fans will be permitted to attend Game 6. Could this provide Montreal with a spark? It’s possible, but it’s likely both teams will get some added juice from the crowd noise. As long as the officials aren’t impacted by the sparse crowd, it’s unlikely to impact the result of the game.

Matthews & Marner Have Been Held In Check

Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner have done very little so far in the series. The two superstars have combined for just one goal in five games, which is a big surprise after their dominant regular seasons. Matthews in particular was expected to have a big impact after winning the Rocket Richard Trophy for most goals. He tallied 41 goals in only 52 games, seven of which were scored against the Canadiens. With lots on the line in Game 6, could this be the breakout performance Toronto is looking for from the dynamic duo?

Maple Leafs vs Canadiens Series Odds

Team Odds at DraftKings
Toronto Maple Leafs -770
Montreal Canadiens +500

Head coach Sheldon Keefe has no plans to separate the two despite the limited production through five games. With captain John Tavares still on the shelf due to his injury in Game 1, some have wondered if splitting up Matthews and Marner could balance the offense. The reality is however, the team is scoring at a decent clip, so if the two highest paid players on the ice break through, it will likely mean a series win for Toronto.

Campbell Holding His Own Against Price

For all the talk about how good Carey Price has been in the series, the stats suggest he’s been the second best goalie. Price ranks 12th in the playoffs with a 2.66 goals against average and 13th with a .919 save percentage. Jack Campbell on the other end of the ice ranks 2nd with a 1.61 goals against average and 2nd with a .944 save percentage. Price is the much more decorated goalie, but most of those accolades were accumulated years ago. This season and this series in particular, Campbell has put up the better numbers.

Trust Toronto To Close Out the Series

Toronto won both games in Montreal earlier in the series and will look to make it a clean sweep on Saturday night. Trust Campbell to put in another solid performance and be aided by breakthrough performances from Matthews and Marner to give the Maple Leafs their first playoff series win in 17 years. If the game is close, Montreal will pull Price early adding extra value to the puck line.

Pick: Toronto Maple Leafs -1.5 (+160)
