Sunday’s NHL slate features three distinct betting angles: a Seattle upset attempt, a Rangers puck-line play, and Carolina laying goals on the road. The analysis below weighs early-season scoring, possession, special teams, and available betting trends. Starting-goaltender confirmations remain important, particularly for Vancouver–New York, so check the final lineup news before placing a wager.

The card calls for one road upset and two favorites to win by multiple goals. Seattle is the higher-variance play; the Rangers and Hurricanes have the stronger statistical cases for puck-line bettors.
Seattle Kraken at Washington Capitals Prediction
- Pick: Seattle moneyline (34¢ / +194 on Kalshi)
My Kraken vs Capitals prediction is a 4-3 Seattle road win. Seattle has scored 4.2 goals per game through five games and owns a 16.2% shooting rate. Its power play has converted at 26.7%, giving the underdog a path to capitalize if Washington takes penalties.
The possession numbers are a concern: Seattle’s early-season Corsi For rate is 39.8%, while Washington’s is 48.0%. That makes this an efficiency-based upset pick rather than a claim that Seattle has controlled play. Washington has allowed 2.0 goals per game and posted a .922 team save percentage, so the Kraken need their finishing and special teams to remain effective. The Capitals are 8-2 over their last 10, but Seattle is 3-2 overall and has enough scoring upside to keep this close.
Vancouver Canucks at New York Rangers Prediction
- Pick: Rangers -1.5 (50¢ / +100 on Kalshi)
My Canucks vs Rangers prediction is a 4-2 New York home win. Vancouver has scored 3.67 goals per game, but it has conceded 4.83 and carries a .853 save percentage. Its penalty kill is also at 52.2%, a serious vulnerability against a New York power play converting at 23.5%.
New York’s overall scoring rate is lower at 2.83 goals per game, yet the Rangers have limited opponents to 1.5 goals per game and own a .924 save percentage. Their 52.5% faceoff rate can help them begin shifts with possession, while Vancouver’s early-season Corsi rate is only 42.6%. Igor Shesterkin’s season-ending injury means New York’s early defensive numbers need context; I will be checking the replacement starter before puck drop. Vancouver is 1-6 in the second half of a back-to-back over the cited seven-game sample.
Carolina Hurricanes at Philadelphia Flyers Prediction
- Pick: Hurricanes -1.5 (42¢ / +138 on Kalshi)
My Hurricanes vs Flyers prediction is a 4-1 Carolina road win. The Hurricanes are averaging 3.83 goals per game, have converted 26.9% of their power plays and own a 59.5% Corsi For rate. They also generate 32.17 shots per game, creating sustained pressure rather than relying solely on shooting luck.
Philadelphia has scored only 1.17 goals per game across six games and has a 5.8% shooting rate. The Flyers’ 38.3% Corsi rate and 3.83 goals allowed per game point to problems at both ends of the ice. Carolina’s road form strengthens the case: the Hurricanes are 11-1 on the road over their last 12 games and 10-1 as a road favorite over their last 11. Philadelphia has lost all six games this season, although Carolina’s own goaltending has produced a .878 save percentage, so the price is more attractive on the puck line than at a heavily juiced moneyline.
NHL Public Betting Splits: Today’s Most Popular Action
Today’s NHL public betting trends show where the money is landing. Sportradar’s Oct. 11 feed (4:04–4:07 a.m. ET) reports these moneyline stake shares for the three matchups:
- Carolina Hurricanes: 96% of moneyline stake vs. Philadelphia
- New York Rangers: 83% of moneyline stake vs. Vancouver
- Washington Capitals: 89% of moneyline stake vs. Seattle
Those percentages show strong public support for the three moneyline favorites. The puck-line market is less one-sided where available: Seattle has 71.80% of puck-line stake against Washington, while Vancouver has 61.61% against New York. That split explains why the Kraken upset remains a contrarian moneyline position, even as Washington attracts most of the favorite-side money.
