Panthers vs Bruins Recent History

With their Game 4 victory, the Bruins have now taken five of eight overall from Florida this season. Sunday’s win also marked the first time one of these teams has tallied consecutive wins in head-to-head action this season.

High scoring has been commonplace when these teams meet. The clubs have combined to score at least six total goals in eight of their past nine dates. However, the OVER has paid out just twice through the first four games of the season.

Florida Panthers Betting Outlook

The Panthers returned their crease to Sergei Bobrovsky in Game 4, which marked the high-priced goaltender’s first start since March 27. Bobrovsky had lost the starting job to journeyman Alex Lyon in the wake of a three-game losing streak, during which he allowed 14 total goals. And things got no better in Game 4, with Bobrovsky surrendering five goals on just 30 shots.

While goaltending has clearly emerged as a concern for this team, Florida coach Paul Maurice has publicly expressed confidence in both his netminders, but has yet to announce who will get the call on Wednesday.

Matthew Tkachuk led a Panthers attack that racked up 43 shots on goal in Game 4. Tkachuk contributed a goal and an assist, and enjoyed some success getting under the skin of the bruins, particularly goalie Linus Ullmark.

Aleksander Barkov exploded for seven shots on goal, but once again failed to bulge the twine, and has tallied just two assists in the series. The club is also dealing with injury concerns. Both Aaron Ekblad and Anthony Duclair missed Game 4 with undisclosed ailments. But with the Panthers’ backs to the wall, both players are expected to suit up for Game 5.

Boston Bruins Betting Outlook

The Bruins faced an offensive onslaught by Florida right from the opening puck drop in Game 4, but enjoyed another standout performance from Linus Ullmark. There was plenty of speculation about Ullmark’s health and whether the Bruins would elect to rest their star netminder for Game 4.

However, Ullmark once again turned in a stellar performance, turning aside 41 of 43 shots before earning a game misconduct for a late-game clash with Tkachuk. Ullmark has now stopped 70 of the 74 shots he has faced since getting lit up for five goals in a 6-3 loss in Game 2.

For a second straight game, Taylor Hall provided the offensive spark, scoring twice and adding a pair of helpers, and has now tallied three goals and six points over the past two games. However, Hall has picked up just four total points over his past 14 home appearances.

Patrice Bergeron returned to practice on Tuesday, setting the stage for him to return from injury on Wednesday. With the veteran back on the ice, head coach Jim Montgomery experimented with line changes, inserting Bergeron on the top line between David Pastrnak and Tyler Bertuzzi, and dropping Brad Marchand to the second unit.

Panthers vs Bruins Game 5 Prediction

The Panthers deserve enormous credit for their offensive efforts in game 4 but must find a way to solve Ullmark and avoid late-game letdowns if they are to extend this series.

Ullmark is just playing too well right now and should help the Bruins take care of business at TD Garden on Wednesday. The Bruins puckline at +100 offers great value in the NHL Playoff odds.

The Pick: Bruins -1.5 (+100); OVER 6.0 (-120)
