The Boston Bruins (12-4-1) welcome the Florida Panthers (9-6-2) to TD Garden for a 1 pm ET puck drop on Sunday. Florida is playing for the second straight day after falling 4-3 in Washington on Saturday.
Boston has won three straight. Pavel Zacha scored twice in Thursday’s win at Pittsburgh, and David Pastrnak set up two goals.
Florida’s top line had a hand in every Panthers goal on Saturday. Here’s where I give Boston the edge.
Panthers vs Bruins Prediction
- Pick: Boston Bruins to win
I’m backing Boston for my Panthers vs Bruins prediction, and the gap in keeping the puck out of the net is the biggest reason. The Bruins allow just 2.29 goals per game behind a .914 team save percentage. Florida gives up 2.82 per game with an .878 mark.
Florida’s forward group is also in flux. Lundell missed Saturday’s game and is day to day, and Sandis Vilmanis left that game in the first period with no definitive update since.
Florida’s power play converts 23.7% of its chances to Boston’s 19.6%. I like Boston’s chances if it can roll four lines at even strength against a short-handed team playing for the second time this weekend.
Boston will be without James Hagens, who went on injured reserve Saturday. Coach Marco Sturm expects him to miss a couple of weeks.
Panthers vs Bruins Odds
Kalshi game-winner prices as of 4:42 a.m. ET Sunday.
The Panthers vs Bruins odds on Kalshi have Boston’s YES contract at 57¢, about a 57% implied chance to win. Florida sits at 44¢, roughly a 44% shot, so the market has the Bruins as a modest favorite rather than a heavy one.
Why Florida Could Outshoot Boston
Florida averages 28.82 shots on goal per game and gives up 24.41. Boston takes 26.18 and allows 27.35. If the shots at TD Garden favor Florida after the first period, that would fit how these teams have played. The Panthers also get 53.4% of the unblocked shot attempts in their games. Boston’s share is 48.6%.
The reason I still like Boston is what happens to those chances. Florida scores 3.24 goals per game to Boston’s 3.71. The Bruins can give up a few more shots and still win if they keep the dangerous passes out of the slot. That last part matters against Matthew Tkachuk, who helped set up all three Florida goals in Washington.
Watch the defensive-zone draws, too. Boston wins 55% of its faceoffs to Florida’s 48.9%. For a Bruins line finishing a long shift, a clean draw and a clear can be the difference between a change and another shift spent chasing the Tkachuks.
Tkachuk Brothers vs Boston’s Top Line
Brady Tkachuk scored twice in the first period Saturday. His brother Matthew picked up his third assist when Sam Bennett redirected a pass with 47 seconds left and Florida’s goalie on the bench. All three are projected together again, with Bennett at center.
Behind them, the Panthers project Sam Reinhart between Carter Verhaeghe and Lars Eller. With Aleksander Barkov and Brad Marchand on the injury list and Anton Lundell day to day, Paul Maurice has fewer options for moving his centers around.
Boston gets last change at home, and its projected first line comes in off a big night of its own. JJ Peterka and David Pastrnak each had two assists in Thursday’s 6-2 win in Pittsburgh. Pastrnak found Pavel Zacha across the crease for the tying goal. That’s the Boston chance I like best against a Florida team playing its second matinee in two days.
Panthers vs Bruins Stats & Betting Splits
Florida has the stronger penalty kill (85.3% to Boston’s 76.8%), so the Bruins have a reason to keep this game at five-on-five.
Sportradar betting splits show bettors heavily on Boston. The Bruins have drawn 93.33% of the moneyline handle and 83.71% of tickets.
The Over has been just as popular, pulling in 89.74% of the money and 86.57% of bets.
