  • The Vegas Golden Knights are -167 home favorites in Game 7 of their West Division semifinal against the Minnesota Wild on Friday
  • Minnesota is 3-0 all-time in Game 7 scenarios
  • Vegas coach Peter DeBoer is 5-0 in Game 7 situations – read below for our betting advice

When it comes to Game 7, the Minnesota Wild have been there and done that, while the Las Vegas Golden Knights have been there and been done in.

There’s not a lot of playoff history to get excited about for the Wild, until Game 7 comes up in the conversation. Minnesota is a perfect 3-0 in Game 7 scenarios in franchise history.

The Golden Knights are 1-1 in two Game 7 situations over the franchise’s brief history. Vegas has never closed out a playoff series with a victory at home.

Nonetheless, oddsmakers believe there’s a first time for everything. The Golden Knights are -167 favorites to emerge victorious over the Wild in Game 7. Home teams are a combined 2-4 straight up in this series.

Friday’s game is set for a 9pm ET puck drop at T-Mobile Arena. NBCSN is carrying the broadcast.

Wild Are Comeback Kings

Once the Golden Knights gained a 3-1 series advantage, the Wild had them exactly where they wanted them. Okay, that might be stretching a point, but the fact of the matter is the Wild thrive in that scenario, while Vegas is hit and miss.

Minnesota is 2-0 in Game 7 when rallying from being 3-1 down in the set. And both times, the Wild won Game 7 on the road.

The Golden Knights have twice squandered 3-1 series advantages, forcing them to a decisive seventh game. Last year in the bubble in Edmonton, they won Game 7 in the second round against the Vancouver Canucks. But in the first round of the 2019 playoffs, Vegas dropped Game 7 at home to the San Jose Sharks.

It should be noted that Vegas coach Peter DeBoer is 5-0 when coaching in a Game 7. It should also be noted that his last Game 7 victory was that win by the Sharks over the Golden Knights.

Injury Update

Things have gone from bad to worse for Vegas on the injury front. The Golden Knights could be without as many as four regulars for Game 7.

Forward Max Pacioretty, their leading goal scorer this season with 24, has missed the entire series with an undisclosed injury. He isn’t even skating with the team yet, so a Game 7 appearance is unlikely.

Defenseman Braydon McNabb, who works in the top pairing with Shea Theodore and forward Ryan Reaves missed Game 6 after entering COVID-19 protocol. Center Tomas Nosek has been out the past four games with an undisclosed injury.

Cody Glass saw his first action of the series in place of Reaves. Nic Hague drew in along the blueline for McNabb.

Minnesota was without defenseman Carson Soucy (upper-body injury) the past two games. Forward Marcus Johansson was lost for the season after suffering a broken arm in Game 3.

Trendspotting

Vegas won Games 2-3-4 by a combined score of 12-3. Minnesota won Games 5-6 by a combined score of 7-2.

The Golden Knights line of Jonathan Marchessault, William Karlsson and Reilly Smith is pointless through the last three games. Vegas is 2-for-14 on the power play.

Minnesota put at least three pucks past Vegas goalie Marc-Andre Fleury in each of the past two games. That hadn’t happened to Fleury in consecutive games since March 21-25.

Minnesota goalie Cam Talbot has posted shutouts in two of three victories in this series. Wild forward Kevin Fiala, second on the club in goals (20) and points (40) during the regular season, collected his first points of the series with a goal and an assist in Game 6. A healthy scratch for the first three games of the set, veteran forward Zach Parise has a goal and two assists for the Wild over the past two games.

Vegas defenseman Shea Theodore is without a point in the series and is pointless over the past 11 games. He was seventh among NHL defenders this season with 42 points.
