  • The Stars are -125 favorites over the Wild in Game 5 of their 1st Round series
  • Mats Zuccarello (upper body) is expected to return after missing three games

If there was one NHL playoff series that everyone agreed could go 7 games, it would be the Wild vs the Stars. Through four games, they’re right on pace. The Central division rivals will square off tonight in Dallas, tied 2 games a piece, with the Stars pegged as favorites in the NHL odds.

These two teams are very evenly matched on paper, and given how Minnesota has dominated the play at even strength, I’m running to bet the Wild’s moneyline.

Puck drop is set for 8 pm ET from American Airlines Arena, in Dallas, TX, with ESPN2 providing the coverage across America, and Sportsnet handling Canadian TV duties.

Keep reading for my favorite Wild vs Stars predictions and best bets, and the latest odds below.

My favorite wager tonight is Minnesota +110. The Wild have dominated production 5-on-5 and there’s a chance they would be running away with this series if they could capitalize on the power play. Minnesota is 1 for their last 15 on the power play, and have generated only 7 high danger scoring chances with the man advantage in over 34 minutes of power play time. Compare that with Dallas, who have scored eight times in 19 power play opportunities.

Help may be on the way for the Wild in the special teams department however, as Mats Zuccarello is expected to make his return to the lineup tonight. Zaccarello, the team’s third leading scorer and fourth leading power play producer, has missed the last three games with an upper body injury.

His presence will take some of the offensive burden off Kirill Kaprizov and Game 4 OT hero Matt Boldy. Zuccarello notched 3 assists in his lone game of the series so far, and it’s no coincidence that Minnesota was 2-for-4 on the power play with him in the lineup.

If Zuccarello can turn the Wild’s slumping PP around, I’d actually make Minnesota the favorite to advance in the NHL Playoff Bracket. The Wild have outscored Dallas 9-3 at even strength, while Jesper Wallstedt has been standing on his head in the crease.

Wallstedt owns a .929 save percentage and 2.06 GAA so far in the postseason. He’s saved 2.2 goals above expectation, and has outplayed Jake Oettinger at the other end, who’s been pretty darn good himself (.902 save %, 2.69 GAA).

I’m riding with the better 5-on-5 team, who’s got help on the way to fix its only glaring issue.

As for the Wild vs Stars odds, the best place to bet Minnesota to win outright at the moment is Bet365. They’re offering a +110 price tag on the Wild, which is by far the best in market.

Total-wise, this clash of Stanley Cup odds contenders has an over/under of 5.5, a line that three of the series’ first four games have exceeded.

Wild vs Stars Best Bets for Game 5

  • Miro Heiskanen Over 2.5 Shots (+110 at DraftKings)

Moving over to my Wild vs Stars best bets, where I’m targeting over 2.5 shots for Miro Heiskanen at +110 odds. Heiskanen leads the Stars in ice time by over 17 minutes, and has generated the most shot attempts of any Dallas player with 34. 17 of those have found their way on net, helping him clear this line in three of the four games so far.

Heiskanen is the quarterback of the Dallas powerplay, and the Stars will need to lean on his big shot from the point to generate scoring chances off rebounds or through screens to beat the red-hot Wallstedt.
