With two matches being played for each of the men’s volleyball teams, the top-three favorites to win gold, including heavily favored Poland, are not leading their respective groups. Instead, the Russian Olympic Committee (+525) and Japan (+8000) head up their respective groups early on in preliminary play.

On the women’s side, China came into the tournament as the favorites to win gold, but they’ve dropped their first two matches to the United States and Turkey, shockingly both in straight sets. The top three squads behind them with the shortest odds to win it all have followed suit with two wins each apiece.

Read on to see the matchup odds and best bets to make for Wednesday’s jam packed action in Olympic Volleyball.

Poland Is Out for Blood

Coming into the tournament, Poland was the heavy +175 favorite to win gold, while their upcoming opponent Venezuela featured ludicrous +70000 odds to win it all. Shockingly, Poland dropped their first match three sets to two to Iran. They then recovered to sweep Italy in three sets to get back on track.

Venezuela has gone according to script thus far in their two defeats, where they haven’t won a set. Poland hasn’t looked as well oiled as they were thought to be entering the tourney, but they should easily take care of their competition. Where you can get a little bit of value is betting the spread, which Poland should attain.

Pick: Poland ML (-15000), -26.5 (-105), UN 124.5 (-110)

Heated Battle Brewing for Brazil

The big time matchup will featured ROC squaring off against Brazil. Both were considered strong choices to win the gold, and ROC actually find themselves one point ahead of Brazil in the standings. Both squads have faced off against Argentina, with ROC having a tougher matchup against USA than the cupcake Tunisian team for Brazil.

ROC has lost one set in each of their first two matches, while Brazil faced a scare, losing their first two sets before rallying to defeat Argentina. That was up against an opponent that entered with long +5000 odds to win gold. With not a whole lot separating the two teams, why not go for the little extra juice for the team that has looked slightly sharper thus far in their first two matches?

Pick: ROC (+150)

Dominican Republic Playing Better

This upcoming matchup between South Korea and Dominican Republic will almost certainly not be a match to remember, with both teams not considered to be anything close to a threat to win gold. The DR were set at +15000 while South Korea was an even longer shot at +20000. Thus far, South Korea does have one victory (against lowly Kenya), while the Dominican Republic have lost both matches.

The DR took Brazil the distance in a five match battle, while South Korea was easily disposed off in straight sets to Brazil, who was among the top tier entering the Olympics. South Korea is also 14th in the world, lagging behind their counterparts who are seventh.

Pick: Dominican Republic (-500)

Expect An Easy Italian Win

This match between Italy and Argentina should be an absolute breeze for the Italians, and it would be surprising if the Argentinian’s even won a single set. They haven’t done so in the first two matches, getting blanked by the United States and ROC. Italy, meanwhile, has taken care of business over Turkey and the Russian Olympic Committee, dropping just one set.

Coming into the tournament, Italy sported +400 odds to win gold while Argentina was an insane +70000 longshot to earn top spot on the podium. Don’t overthink this one, as it’s virtually a certainty.

Pick: Italy (-20000)
