  • Kyle Larson is the favorite this week at the Wise Power 400 on Sunday, February 27th, 2022
  • Does this week feature a return to normalcy of sorts?
  • We’ve got you covered with all the Wise Power 400 odds and trends ahead of Sunday afternoon’s race.

NASCAR heads to Fontana, California for the second race of the 2022 season. The race comes from the Auto Club Speedway. The odds do look different this week. Most will notice a return to a sort of “normalcy”. Kyle Larson is the early favorite at +400 in the Wise Power 400 odds. Kyle Busch has seen his numbers shorten from earlier in the week. He was in the +1000 to +1200 range but is now +650.

This is a week after the Daytona 500, where Austin Cindric took advantage of staying just ahead of the chaos to win his first NASCAR race at 23. Cindric held off a late charge from Bubba Wallace and blocked Ryan Blaney a couple of turns before to preserve the win.

Let’s take a look at the Wise Power 400 odds and figure out which drivers are the best bets.

Kyle Larson Favored in Wise Power 400 Odds

NASCAR drivers will run on the 2-mile Auto Club Speedway when the flag drops for the Sunday afternoon race beginning around 3:30 PM EST. The February race often delivers more expected results. It is a track that favors those that thrive on high-wear scenarios. Conditions will be optimal with Partly to Mostly Sunny skies and temperatures likely in the Low 70s. These are the kind of conditions Kyle Larson, California native (Elk Grove), is used to.

Larson has a pretty good track record on the 2-mile intermediate tracks with an average finish of 10.6 since 2019. His driver rating of 92.6 ranks ninth among all active drivers. The defending series champion has won on his home track before in 2017. Larson also led the most laps that year and took the pole as well.

Currently, Larson again is the favorite at +400 odds. Fellow Hendrick Motorsports Racing driver Chase Elliott also stands at +800. But, when it comes to Caesars Sportsbook, the No. 5 driver sees his odds shorten to +250.

Now, the question has to be asked. What will this year be like? Up next, is Kyle Larson’s “home track” which leads to this sentiment.

Team Hendrick is in a great position again at the Wise Power 400. Alex Bowman (2020 winner) comes in with +1600 odds (+1400 at Caesars Sportsbook).

Finally, Larson (2017 winner) and the other Hendricks thrived really well in testing on the California track. So, did a few other racers.

Recent Winners

Year Race Winner Pole Position Most Laps Led
2021 No race held No race held No race held
2020 Alex Bowman — Hendrick Motorsports Racing Clint Bowyer — Stewart-Haas Racing Alex Bowman — Hendrick Motorsports Racing
2019 Kyle Busch — Joe Gibbs Racing Austin Dillon — Richard Childress Racing Kyle Busch — Joe Gibbs Racing
2018 Martin Truex Jr. — Furniture Row Racing Martin Truex Jr. — Furniture Row Racing Martin Truex Jr. — Furniture Row Racing
2017 Kyle Larson – Chip Ganassi Racing Kyle Larson – Chip Ganassi Racing Kyle Larson – Chip Ganassi Racing

The race is normally 200 laps, but over time had been a fairly common occurrence with the Fontana race. Four straight overtime races were then followed by normal 200 lap races the past three years.

Can Another Hendricks Car Pull This Off?

Sports bettors get reacquainted with the Fontana history on the D-shaped oval. Chase Elliott, second in the Hendricks pecking order is among the favorites in the NASCAR Cup Series odds, but here is where it gets fun. No matter where he qualifies lately for the season opener, Elliott has the car to compete here.

The question becomes this. Can the No. 9 car win?

The fact that Elliott was consistent enough makes one wonder. Even Caesar’s has him at +750.  Add that and Bowman’s 2020 win, and one can see why Hendricks is potentially the car to beat.

Wise Power 400 Predictions & Picks

The driver that has generated some considerable buzz heading into this week is Kyle Busch. Like we mentioned, the No. 18 Joe Gibbs driver won in 2019 and was third in 2020 (+700 on the Caesars Sportsbook sports betting app though). The younger Busch is one of the fastest at this track. Period.

There are inevitably some interesting choices to look at. Bowman is one to look at (mentioned above) along with Elliott. Kurt Busch is +3000 in the Daytona 500 odds at Barstool and Caesars Sportsbook. He has to be considered along with Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano.

Austin Cindric may not win, but he is +5000 at Caesars compared to +3300 at Barstool Sportsbook.

The stage format is 60-60-80 for laps. Expect more of the usual suspects to dominate.

Here are our best bets:

  • Top Pick: Kyle Larson to win (+400)
  • Middle Shooter: Kyle Busch (+700 at Caesars Sportsbook)
  • Longshots: Kurt Busch (+3000), Brad Keselowski (+2500)
