Atletico Madrid hosts Manchester City at Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday, April, 13th in the second leg of their Champions League quarterfinal tie. Manchester City were 1-0 victors in the first leg at the Etihad Stadium, and they are well-positioned to progress to the last four on Wednesday in the Atletico Madrid vs Manchester City odds. Sitting atop the Champions League odds, Pep Guardiola’s side are coming off a thrilling draw with Liverpool at the weekend.

Atletico put in a historically defensive performance in the first leg, not registering a single shot. They come into this one on the back of a weekend loss to Mallorca.

Atletico Madrid vs Manchester City Prediction for Leg 2 Quarterfinal

Atletico have suffered consecutive defeats for the first time since January. Having won six in a row heading into the first leg, Diego Simeone named a strong XI for an away game against Mallorca at the weekend, but that still wasn’t enough to secure a positive result. The club from the capital had just nine shots despite over 67% possession.

Manchester City, in contrast, played out a thriller with Liverpool on Sunday. A 2-2 draw wasn’t the perfect outcome for Guardiola’s side, but it puts them in the box seat in the title race down the stretch. Fatigue could be an issue after such an intense 90 minutes, however.

Both teams are missing important defensive players in Jose Gimenez and Ruben Dias. John Stones and Aymeric Laporte should continue at the heart of the City defense, while Simeone will persevere with the same back three we saw at the weekend.

City’s Away Dominance

City haven’t lost away from home since they faced Leipzig in the Champions League group stage. That’s 12 matches without defeat, nine of which have ended in victories. They schooled Burnley in their last match on the road, clocking 18 shots and almost 77% possession.

Atletico have had their struggles at home this season, but they have put together three straight victories at Wanda Metropolitano. Their home record in the Champions League leaves plenty to be desired, however, with two draws and two defeats from four matches. Both Liverpool and Manchester United have dominated possession on their respective trips to the Metropolitano. While Atleti will still look to play on the break, they are under greater pressure to push for goals in this fixture given their first leg deficit.

Atletico Madrid vs Manchester City Team Lineups and Injuries

Atletico Madrid Projected Lineup: Oblak; Savic, Felipe, Reinildo; Llorente, Paul, Koke, Kondogbia, Carrasco; Griezmann, Felix.

Atletico Madrid Injuries: Hector Herrera, Jose Gimenez.

Manchester City Projected Lineup: Ederson; Walker, Stones, Laporte, Cancelo; De Bruyne, Rodri, Gundogan; Mahrez, Sterling, Foden.

Manchester City Injuries: Ruben Dias, Cole Palmer.

Atletico Madrid vs Manchester City Pick

Three goals scored in four home Champions League matches doesn’t bode well for Atletico here. City have conceded four goals over their last six.

Simeone’s team were able to contain City at the Etihad, but such defensive tactics do not make much sense when they need to win the match. Perhaps Atleti aim to sit deep and snatch a goal on the break — keeping this City team out for 90 minutes is a huge ask.

It’s no surprise to see the away side at -835 to go through. Defeat to Mallorca wasn’t exactly ideal preparation for Atletico, and their home form throughout the season doesn’t inspire much confidence. We’re backing City to continue their stellar away streak with another win.

Pick: Manchester City to win (-130)
