LAFC vs LA Galaxy Preview
LAFC was nothing short of spectacular in 2022, going a league-best 21-9-4 en route to first place West, sitting 11 points clear of Austin FC. Steve Cherundolo’s men netted 66 times in just 34 games while conceding a mere 38 goals. The attacking duo of Cristian Arango and Carlos Vela were absolutely lethal, combining for 28 goals and 13 assists.

However, the Black and Gold did lose their final match of the campaign to Nashville and have only won two of their last five outings. On a more positive note, LAFC’s form is flawless on home soil, tasting defeat twice this term to go along with 13 victories and two draws. Seven of keeper Maxime Crepeau’s 10 clean sheets came at the Banc of California Stadium, too.
LAFC vs LA Galaxy Key Stats
21-9-4 (1st in West) | W-L-D | 14-12-8 (4th in West) |
66 | Goals Scored | 58 |
38 | Goals Conceded | 51 |

The Galaxy does have the upper hand in previous meetings with LAFC, at 3-2-1 in the past six head-to-head meetings and they truly couldn’t be in better shape at the moment. LA is unbeaten in their last five fixtures, winning on four occasions. That included a heroic 1-0 victory over Nashville in the first round of the playoffs, shutting down Golden Boot winner Hany Mukhtar.
While their form on the road in 2022 wasn’t fantastic, the Galaxy is playing a mile better away from home as of late, beating Houston down south and San Jose just a few hours upstate from Dignity Health Sports Park. In both of those matches, Greg Vanney’s side fired home three goals. After keeping Mukhtar at bay, the Galaxy’s backline won’t be short on confidence as Vela and Arango look to spoil their run.
LAFC vs LA Galaxy Projected Lineups & Injuries
LAFC Projected Lineup: Crepeau; Hollingshead, Segura, Chiellini, Palacios; Cifuentes, Sanchez, Acosta; Vela, Arango, Bouanga
Injuries & Absences: N/A
LA Galaxy Projected Lineup: Bond; Araujo, Coulibaly, Caceres, Edwards; Delgado, Brugman, Puig; Cabral, Chicharito, Grandsir
Injuries & Absences: Villafana, Perez
LAFC vs LA Galaxy Prediction
This is a very tough one to predict. The Galaxy has LAFC’s number, but it’s hard to look past the hosts’ impressive play at home where they were 13-2-2. For that reason, I’m taking LAFC. I also see value in the over in goals given how much attacking talent is on both sides and that there have been three or more goals scored in five of their past six meetings.
Pick: LAFC (-140), Over 3.5 Goals (+140)
