Marseille vs Monaco Over/Under and Spread

The oddsmakers are expecting goals in this one and are offering a tempting +110 for under +2.5 goals. The over is therefore on offer at a less tempting -135.

Marseille vs Monaco Preview

Despite dropping out of the Champions League in disappointing fashion, Led Olympiens are on fire in Ligue 1 and are heaping the pressure on league leaders, PSG. They come into this game unbeaten in eight in all competitions.

Igor Tudor’s team are well-placed as they head into the second half of the campaign, and even if they miss out on the title they look odds-on to secure themselves a place in next season’s Champions League. They are just five points behind the leaders and just two behind second-placed Lens.

Fine Form at the Stade Velodrome

Marseille’s fine run has been bolstered by some outstanding home form where they have won five on the bounce, scoring 13 goals in the process. Last Friday, they used home comforts to see off Rennes in the Coupe de France – their narrow 1-0 win earning them a place in the last 16.

They also have a good recent record against Monaco, having won four of their last six meetings but if they can complete the double over them – they won 3-2 in Monaco in November – it will be their first since 2007-08.

Ten Wins in Last 14 for Monaco

Monaco’s form since the summer has been more inconsistent than coach Philippe Clement would have liked but he has a talented squad that’s more than capable of competing for the Champions League places. They are also capable of big wins as they proved last weekend when they hammered Ajaccio 7-1.

Most recently their form has been good and they have won 10 of their last 14. During that run, the only team to have bettered that level of performance is the mighty PSG, so this really is a clash of Ligue 1’s two form teams.

Poor Record at Stade Velodrome

Worth noting though is that Monaco’s good form has been mainly played out against teams in the bottom half of the Ligue 1 table, and they are without a win against teams in the league’s top seven – most recently against 7th-placed Lorient with whom they drew 2-2.

They also don’t have a great record at the Stade Velodrome where they have won just once in their last six visits, although that win did come last season when they won thanks to a single Gelson Martins goal.

Marseille vs Monaco Prediction

Both teams come into this with confidence but home advantage could be the deciding factor. A noisy, passionate Stade Velodrome will make it an uncomfortable 90+ minutes for the Les Monegasques and so, for me, with Marseille in plus money the value is with the home low-scoring win.

Picks: Marseille to win (+110) / Under 2.5 goals (+110)
