Everton vs Aston Villa Prediction

Everton is under the temporary management of coach and club legend Duncan Ferguson for the visit of Villa after Rafa Benitez was sacked last Sunday following the Toffees’ humiliating 2-1 away defeat at lowly Norwich. The defeat in Norfolk was the final straw for the Everton board after what has been a disappointing season; one that has seen them drop to 16th in the table.

One positive for them is the fitness of Richarlison, who came off the bench to score last weekend, but new loan signing Anwar El Ghazi is ineligible to line up against his parent club. Villa, after a flying start under new manager Steven Gerrard, are themselves on a three-game winless run but they did manage a very creditable 2-2 against Man Utd last weekend – a game in which they came back from being 2-0 down.

Much will depend here on how Everton responds to a new voice in the changing room and it is worth noting that they have performed well with Ferguson being in temporary charge before. A hostile return to Merseyside awaits Gerrard and I can see this edging the way of the hosts who at +185 for the win are definitely worth a punt.

Picks: Everton to win  (+185)

Manchester United  vs West Ham United Prediction

Manchester United’s progress under the management of Ralf Rangnick continued in midweek when they overcame a lively Brentford team in west London to win 3-1. The win kept them in seventh place, just one place shy of the Europa League places but, crucially, only three places and two points away from fourth place, which brings with it Champions League soccer. They still struggle, however, to find that elusive top gear.

West Ham is currently in that coveted fourth spot but off the back of three straight wins, they suffered disappointment last Sunday when they were beaten at home by a Leeds United team racked by illness and injury. It was an unexpected setback for David Moyes’ men but they will head to Old Trafford still confident of returning to winning ways, even though they are likely to still be without influential midfielder Tomas Soucek.

If United can find their best form they are capable of blowing West Ham away but despite an improvement under Rangnick, there still appears something missing from a squad that appears unsettled. If West Ham can keep things tight early on they are capable of causing an upset here, and so don’t ignore the juicy +295 on offer for the away win. For those who love an outsider, it’s well worth a shot.

Pick: West Ham to win  (+295)

Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur Prediction

Chelsea suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat away to Man City last weekend but produced a performance that most agreed was worthy of at least a point. Manager Thomas Tuchel was disappointed with his team’s quality in the attacking third but was otherwise was content with a generally solid team display. The Blues followed this up with an away draw at Brighton on Tuesday evening.

Spurs’ win in midweek at Leicester – a game they were losing 2-1 as the clock ticked onto 94 minutes – was arguably one of the games of the season and will have given them a massive confidence boost ahead of this London derby.

After beating Spurs twice in the last three weeks in the two-legged semifinal of the EFL Cup, Chelsea comes into this with a significant psychological advantage but this will be a different game, especially after Tottenham’s heroics on Wednesday night. Chelsea still remains a very tough opponent at Stamford Bridge though, so, for me, the value here is with the draw.

Pick: Chelsea and Spurs to draw (+310)
