Two clubs currently struggling to snap winless streaks clash on Wednesday night, when Pumas UNAM host the Seattle Sounders in the first leg of this season’s CONCACAF Champions League Final between Pumas vs Seattle.

Pumas return to the pitch riding a two-match slide. Both those defeats have come in Liga MX action, capped by last weekend’s 3-1 loss in Guadalajara. The Sounders are coming off a heartbreaking 4-3 road loss to the San Jose Earthquakes, marking their second straight defeat in MLS play, and extending their current winless slide to three matches.

Here’s a look at all the odds and trends ahead of Wednesday night’s matchup, which is set to kickoff at 10:30 pm ET at Estadio Olímpico de Universitario in Mexico City.

Pumas vs Sounders Prediction

Pumas make their return to the CONCACAF Champions League Final for the first time since 2005 and will be looking to raise the trophy for the first time since 1989. However, they have plenty of work to do to overcome their current swoon. The club has tallied just one total goal while falling to defeat in back-to-back league contests, a run that leaves them sporting a middling 5-6-6 win-draw-loss record in their past 17 contests across all competitions.

UNAM’s march to the CCL final has also been far from easy. The club has posted just three wins in six matches to date at this season’s tournament. However, it is important to note that each of those victories have come on home turf. Pumas shooters filled the net in those home dates, piling up nine total goals.

Star striker Juan Dinenno has powered the Pumas attack, scoring six times over the club’s three home dates during this year’s tournament. However, the club will have to do without the 27-year-old Argentine in Wednesday’s first leg while he continues his recovery from a reported muscle injury. The loss of Dinenno further complicates matters for UNAM, who will also be without suspended defender Arturo Ortiz.

The status of midfielder Leonel Lopez also appears doubtful as he reportedly battles a soft tissue edema. With Dinenno on the shelf, Pumas will be looking for more production from the duo of Washington Corozo and Rogerio, who have combined to pot 14 goals in league play this season, but have been held off the scoresheet in each of the past five CCL contests.

The Sounders look to their first ever meeting with Pumas in good health, and they may need it to overcome their current struggles on the road, where they have tallied just one win in 12 matches across all competitions since last September. Seattle has enjoyed an undefeated run to their first berth in the CCL final. But like Pumas, the Sounders have struggled to generate offence on the road during this season’s tournament, scoring just twice while playing to three draws, capped by a 1-1 draw in the second leg of their semi-final clash with New York City FC.

Nicolas Lodeiro has been one of the fewer Seattle shooters to produce. The veteran midfielder has scored twice over the club’s past three CCL matches. Striker Fredy Montero has added three markers at this year’s tournament, but has failed to find the back of the net in his past six overall appearances.
