  • Serie A Matchday 2 kicks off on Friday, August 27th with Udinese vs Venezia, while also featuring nine other fixtures through Sunday evening

Serie A Matchday 2 kicks off at 12:30 PM EST on Friday afternoon as Udinese play Venezia and look to build on their surprise draw against Juventus last week. After Verona play Inter Milan later on Friday afternoon, fans can look forward to four games on both Saturday and Sunday in Serie A.

While there are no major matchups in Serie A Matchday 2, there are some very important mid-table fixtures that will be important later on. Additionally, it will be interesting to see how the likes of Inter Milan, Roma, Lazio and Napoli build on their opening week victories. With Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi leaving the Nerazzurri and Jose Mourinho leading the charge at Roma, the abundance of storylines in the Serie A is quite astounding already.

Odds as of August 25 at DraftKings

In the first ten Serie A matches alone, seven red cards were handed out and 36 goals were put in the back of the net. In turn, Serie A fans statistically were likely to see a red card and approximately 3.6 total goals per match in the first week of play.

Verona vs Inter Milan Prediction

The first highlighted game of Serie A Matchday 2 kicks off on Friday at 2:45 PM EST between Verona and Inter Milan.

The Nerazzurri are a team to watch this year under Simone Inzaghi, in his first year managing the club after departing Lazio in the summer. Antonio Conte did wonders with this Milan team and it will be interesting to see how they reach the same levels.

Regardless, Inter Milan also have to make up for the losses of Hakimi in defense and Lukaku in the attack. So far, they have added Edin Dzeko, Hakan Calhanoglu and Denzel Dumfries to make up for that loss in creativity and goals. If the first match represents any sign of what is yet to come than Inzaghi should not be worried.

In fact, Dzeko and Calhanoglu combined for two goals and two assists in a 4-0 victory, displaying the instant offense they will provide.

On the other hand, Verona lost their first match against Sassuolo in sloppy fashion. For that reason, I expect Inter Milan to not only win, but by a multi-goal margin.

Pick: Inter Milan -1.5 (+175)

Fiorentina vs Torino Prediction

Next, Fiorentina takes on Torino on Saturday, also at 2:45 PM EST at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in Serie A Matchday 2.

Both of these sides lost their first matches against two tough sides in Roma and Atalanta, respectively. Tammy Abraham took apart the Fiorentina defense and Torino has their task cut out for them against a brilliant Atalanta offense.

In fairness, those results are expected. Instead, it is about these mid-table matches that really sway the point total come the end of the year. Nonetheless, in my opinion, Fiorentina have the standout players that can make a difference in fixtures like these.

Dusan Vlahovic is a name to look out for, a youngster who scored 21 goals in the Serie A last year. With the likes of Jose Callejon to his right and Erik Pulgar in midfield behind him, Fiorentina are a dangerous side. Fiorentina has won two of their last three head-to-head matches and I favor them again on Saturday.

Pick: Fiorentina Moneyline (+125)

Salernitana vs Roma Prediction

Finally, Salernitana and Roma close out Serie A Matchday 2 on Sunday at 2:45 PM EST.

I already mentioned Abraham’s performance in his debut for Roma. But, overall it was a great game from Jose Mourinho’s side, especially playing a man down for nearly 40 minutes.

The goalscorers, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Jordan Veretout were two more standout talents. While this side are still trying to figure it out, it is hard to see them not putting in another good 90-minute shift after a full week of rest.

For Salernitana, they finished second in Serie B last year to Empoli and will look to build on last week’s loss to Bologna. To be fair, it was a crazy match with five goals and three red cards. I predict something similar to take place this Sunday with an absolute goal-fest.

Pick: Over 3.5 total goals (+130)
