- On Saturday, May 23rd, Wolfsburg hosts Borussia Dortmund at the Volkswagon Arena as the Bundesliga resumes play for the second weekend in a row
- Currently, Borussia Dortmund is four points behind league leaders Bayern Munich, while Wolfsburg sit in sixth place on 39 points
- Borussia Dortmund is favored to win the match with moneyline odds of -145
As the Bundesliga picks up play for the second consecutive weekend, Wolfsburg takes on Borussia Dortmund in what could be a very influential match for the outcome of the league. The two sides have fifteen points between them, but a slip up from Dortmund could spell another league title for German giants, Bayern Munich.
In November, the two squads met up at the Signal Iduna Park in a match that saw Dortmund trump their opponents by a score of 3-0. Despite this, both sides will still be shaking off the rust from their long absence and are both coming off victories in last weekend’s round of play.
Wolfsburg vs Borussia Dortmund Odds

Wolfsburg | +½, +1 (-110) | +350 | Over 3 (-102) |
Borussia Dortmund | -½, -1 (-110) | -145 | Under 3 (-118) |

Dortmund Off to Another Hot Start
Lucien Favre’s men had the task of playing Schalke last weekend and took them down easily, 4-0. The goals came from three different players including Erling Haaland, Raphael Guerreiro and Thorgan Hazard. Sancho and Gotze came off the bench for BVB, so it will be interesting to see if they are in the starting eleven this time around.
The two fastest players to reach 🔟 goals in Bundesliga history.

With eight games left in the season, it is still possible for Dortmund to catch Bayern for rights to the Meisterschale for the first time since 2012. A defeat or draw could be costly and result in a slide down the table as Monchengladbach, Leipzig and Leverkusen are all within four points.

Weghorst to Feature for Wolfsburg
Coming off a 2-1 victory against Augsburg, Wolfsburg will be full of confidence. Especially when you consider that they had to play without lead goalscorer Wout Weghorst due to a yellow card suspension. Weghorst has 11 goals on the season from 22 caps and will most likely be the main man up top on Saturday.
Wolfsburg vs Borussia Dortmund Statistics
6th (39 Points) | Standing in Bundesliga | 2nd (54 Points) |
1.4 | Goals per game | 2.8 |
14 | Shots per game | 13.7 |
49.5% | Average Possession % | 58.4% |
The problem for Wolfsburg will be containing Dortmund and their attacking threat. Dortmund showed no signs of weakness last weekend, and it seems as though as long as Haaland keeps playing, he keeps scoring too. Against Schalke he brought his tally up to 10 goals already for the German side since they purchased him from Salzburg during the winter transfer window.
Best Bet
The best bet for this match is to go with Dortmund winning the spread at -1/2, -1 (-110). Considering the reverse fixture and the likes of Haaland and Sancho combining against the Wolfsburg defense, I believe it is safe to say Dortmund will win by a few goals.
Wolfsburg will be aided by the addition of Weghorst back to the squad, but it will not be enough to stop Dortmund on their quest to finally take Bayern back off their perch. Expect it to be another interesting match for both the players and fans at home watching as they will again play in an empty stadium.
My Pick: Borussia Dortmund – Spread -1/2, -1 (-110)
