  • Defending champion Iga Swiatek, the #8 seed, is the +275 favorite to win the women’s singles title at the French Open
  • Both Swiatek and world #1 Ashleigh Barty are both in the top half of the draw. World #2 Naomi Osaka and three-time champion Serena Williams are in the bottom half of the draw
  • Analysis of favorites to consider and darkhorse candidates to watch in each quarter of the tournament are available right here

If the form charts hold, the last two women’s singles champions at the French Open will clash in this year’s semifinals. The draw for the 2021 event on the red clay of Roland Garros has 2020 champion Iga Swiatek and 2019 winner Ashleigh Barty, the world’s top-ranked player, on a collision course to face each other in the final four.

The bottom half of the draw could produce a semifinal match between world #2 Naomi Osaka and three-time French Open champion Serena Williams.

Which favorites should you back? Who are the longshots worth taking into consideration? Analysis of each quarter of the French Open women’s singles competition is right here for your perusal.

2021 French Open First Quarter Odds

Player Odds
Ashleigh Barty +500
Cori Gauff +2500
Elina Svitolina +2700
Karolina Muchova +4000
Karolina Pliskova +5300
Jennifer Brady +7500
Sloane Stephens +12500
Fiona Ferro +15000
Ons Jabeur +15000
Barbora Krejcikova +20000

Odds as of May 28 at DraftKings

An arm injury forced Barty out of her quarterfinal match in Rome against Cori Gauff. She’s been practicing in Paris, but until she plays for real, no one can assess for certain where the world’s top player is at in terms of match fitness. A potential Barty-Gauff rematch could loom in the round of 16.

Elina Svitolina has reached the quarterfinals in three of the past six French Opens, including last year. Karolina Pliskova has crashed out early in all of her French Open appearances except in 2017 when she was a semifinalist. A sleeper to watch is Barbora Krejcikova (+20000). The Czech player reached the round of 16 last year at Roland Garros.

Pick: Elina Svitolina (+2700)

2021 French Open Second Quarter Odds

Player Odds
Iga Swiatek +275
Garbine Muguruza +1400
Elise Mertens +4000
Sofia Kenin +5000
Jelena Ostapenko +5000
Maria Sakkari +5000
Petra Martic +8000
Anett Kontaveit +9000
Jessica Pegula +9000
Sara Sorribes Tormo +30000

Last year’s champion (Swiatek) and finalist (Sofia Kenin) are grouped in the same quarter. It’s #4 Kenin who’s the top seed in this section of the draw.

Jelena Ostapenko, the 2017 champion and Kenin square off in the opening round. There’s also 2016 champ Garbine Muguruza, though the Spaniard has been slowed by injury this season. A potential darkhorse is Petra Martic (+8000). The Croatian was a 2019 quarterfinalist at Roland Garros and comes in this year off a semifinal appearance in Rome.

Pick: Iga Swiatek (+275)

2021 French Open Third Quarter Odds

Player Odds
Aryna Sabalenka +800
Petra Kvitova +2000
Serena Williams +2500
Victoria Azarenka +5000
Elena Rybakina +8000
Leylah Annie Fernandez +10000
Angelique Kerber +10000
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova +15000
Madison Keys +20000
Danielle Collins +50000
Anastasia Potapova +50000

All eyes will be on Williams as she continues her pursuit of record Grand Slam win #24. Williams is 1-2 on clay this year. She hasn’t made it past the round of 16 at Roland Garros since her 2016 final appearance.

Belarussian Aryna Sabalenka is still seeking her first quarterfinal appearance in a Grand Slam event. But she seems to have located a clay game this season. Sabalenka posted a win over Barty in the Madrid final.

A two-time semifinalist at Roland Garros, the draw sets up well for Petra Kvitova. She might not face a player in the top 100 until the third round.

Pick: Petra Kvitova (+2000)

2021 French Open Fourth Quarter Odds

Player Odds
Naomi Osaka +1200
Bianca Andreescu +2000
Paula Badosa +2500
Veronika Kudermetova +5000
Amanda Anisimova +6600
Nadia Podoroska +7500
Belinda Bencic +9000
Marketa Vondrousova +9000
Daria Kasatkina +10000
Kiki Bertens +15000

Stay away from Naomi Osaka. She’s not fared well at Roland Garros. Osaka has not advanced past the round of 32. Likewise, Andreescu has never reached the second week in Paris.

Veronika Kudermetova and Paula Badosa, along with Barty, share the WTA lead this season for wins on clay with 13. Each also has a tournament win on clay this year. Badosa was a French Open junior champion.

Pick: Paula Badosa (+2500)
