Main draw action for the 2021 US Open will begin on Monday, August 30th at the Billie Jean King International Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York.

Novak Djokovic enters the tournament as the favorite to win the Grand Slam, but that shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. Unfortunately, 2020 champion Dominic Thiem has withdrawn from the tournament, and will no longer participate. It was Thiem last year who became the first player other than a member of The Big Three to win a Major trophy for the first time in 13 consecutive Major tournaments.

Will it go back to a Big Three member winning this Grand Slam? Take a look below for the odds to win the tournament outright, a preview, and our best bet analysis.

Djokovic Looking to Make History

The 34-year old can single handedly make this tournament the must watch event for the next couple of weeks. The Serb has gone on to win all three Grand Slams that have taken place this year, and is looking to complete the Calendar Grand Slam. If he is able to achieve this, he will become the second man in history to do so. Incredible.

Not only is the Calendar Grand Slam a possibility, but he will also be looking to win his 21st Grand Slam title, to stand at the top of the record books alone. Right now he is tied with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal with 20 Grand Slam titles.

But once again, this will be no easy task for Djokovic. The draw doesn’t necessarily favor the Serb, and gives him a bit of a tricky path to the finals. Wimbledon runner-up Matteo Berrettini drew the same quarter, and could be tough competition.

Other players in their quarter include Hubert Hurkacz, Jan-Lennard Struff, and Alex De Minaur. All of who have the opportunity to spoil one’s run in Flushing Meadows.

2020 Champ Pulls Out

Just over a week ago, 2020 US Open champion Dominic Thiem had to make the tough decision to end his season early. The Austrian suffered a wrist injury back in June in the first grass court match of the season. He has since went on to miss Wimbledon, the Olympics, and the most recent Masters events in both Toronto and Cincinnati.

A tough decision to make, but one that is sure to be beneficial for his future.

Who to Watch

With every tournament, there are always going to be a couple of dark horses that have the opportunity to make a run themselves, or put a stop to a top players’ time at the event. And with a Grand Slam, and 128 players in the main draw, it’s always going to happen.

So who should we watch out for this year at the US Open?

In the first quarter, Hurkacz has an opportunity to make a splash in the early rounds. The Polish player did win the Miami Open earlier this year, and has found success on hard courts. He’ll most likely find himself up against Berrettini in the quarterfinals, but keep an eye out for him.

The young rising star Jannik Sinner will also look to cause some trouble. At +8000 and +6000 odds to win outright, I don’t think either Hurkacz or Sinner are best bet to take the whole tournament, but look for them in their upcoming matches.

Best Bet

It’s really hard to find a reason not to bet on Djokovic to win it all once again this tournament. Yes, the Serb walked away in Tokyo without medalling, but there’s no reason to doubt he won’t come out on top here in New York.

After the Australian Open earlier this year, he made a comment that he will be mostly focusing on Slams as the year goes on, and he’s done just that. He has still played in a number of tournaments, but he has also taken breaks where needed. He’s actually only 17-5, with one title in non-Slam tournaments, but is 21-0 in Grand Slam matches this year.

He’s the best male tennis player in the world at the moment. There are some questions surrounding his performance in Tokyo, and that he hasn’t played a match since. But again, he did warn us and tell us, that his main focus will be Slams.

Best Bet: Djokovic (-125)
