Rublev vs Djokovic Match Preview

Rublev will be looking to advance to a Grand Slam major for the very first time here with an upset win over Djokovic. The furthest the 25-year-old has progressed to this point is the quarters of the Aussie Open, US Open, and French Open. In this tournament, he’s looked really good and eliminated several quality opponents along the way. That list includes Dominic Thiem, Emil Ruusuvuori, Dan Evans, and Rune on Sunday.

This match against the Dane was actually the first top-10 encounter of the competition and it certainly didn’t fail to live up to the hype, ending 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(11-9). Rublev even faced two match points but managed to stay alive. In the fifth set, the Russian trailed 2-5 and clawed his way back, finishing off Rune with a backhand that clipped the net and just dribbled over.

Djokovic is back in Melbourne and the fans are loving it. He’s coming into this tournament in fine form and has continued to dominate. With Rafael Nadal already out, the 21-time Grand Slam winner is the clear favorite in the Australian Open odds. And to be frank, he’s hardly been tested yet, cruising into the quarters.

While there were some concerns with Nole’s hamstring through the first three rounds, he showed absolutely no discomfort against De Minaur, truly dominating him, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2. The 35-year-old won nearly 50% of De Minaur’s serving points, putting together a flawless performance.

Djokovic’s toughest test comes against Rublev, but he’s got all the confidence in the world at the moment. Nole can just smell the semis and he’s already 9-0 on the season. That includes a title in Adelaide just before the Aussie Open.

Andrey Rublev vs Novak Djokovic Prediction

Although Rublev will fancy his chances here, I don’t see him getting by Djokovic, who simply knows this 22nd title is just waiting for him after Rafa exited early. However, the Russian should be able to take a set. Bet Nole in four.
