Rune Perfect Through Two

The 19-year old Dane has yet to drop a set through his first two matches here in Switzerland. Rune started his tournament off strong against Alex de Minaur, who he took down 6-2, 7-5. He then went onto take on Ugo Humbert in the second round, and again defeated him in straight sets, winning 6-4, 6-2.

The 19-year old enter this tournament after winning the Stockholm Open just last weekend, and is now riding a seven-match win streak.

In his second round match against Humbert, Rune managed to take advantage of every little mistake his opponent made. After easily winning the first set, he started the set with an early break, and was able to hold a 5-1 lead. He then went on to win 6-2, to earn a spot in his seventh quarterfinal match of the year.

Rinderknech Continues to Fight

The 27-year old had to earn his way to the main draw of this tournament, with a few qualifying wins early on, before opening his tournament up against fourth seed Marin Cilic. He managed to come out strong, and upset him in three sets, moving onto the second round.

In the round of 16, he found himself up against Alex Molcan. The two were relatively evenly matched from the start, but it was Rinderknech who was able to run away with it, becoming to first of the two to go up a break in the second set. It was a bit of back and forth, as the two managed to even out the score a couple times, but Rinderknech had some breaks, and managed to close it out.

This will now be his sixth quarterfinal match of the year.

Second Meeting of 2022

These two have played each other a total of two times, with this being their second meeting of 2022. Their first meeting was last year in Austria, where Rinderknech secured the win in three sets. But it was earlier this year, in Lyon France, that Rune defeated Rinderknech in straight sets. Their current head-to-head is split at 1-1.

Both of their previous matches have been played on outdoor clay, so we don’t actually know how the two will go head-to-head on this surface, as the Swiss Indoors Basel is played on indoor hard courts.

Rune vs Rinderknech Pick

These two are actually quite evenly matched usually, but Rune is on a bit of a hot streak at the moment, perhaps playing some of the strongest tennis of his career.

All tournament, both players have been able to rack up the winners, while minimizing the unforced errors, which they’ll have to continue to do.  But if Rune is able to continue at the level he’s currently playing at, he should be able to come out of this one the winner.

Best Bet: Rune 2-0 (-130)
