Djokovic on the Hunt for 23rd Grand Slam

The 36-year old is on the hunt for his record-breaking 23rd Grand Slam title. The odds look to be in his favor, as he’s shown he is still in his top form, and there’s no need to doubt him. He has yet to drop a set this tournament.

In his most recent match, he defeated Juan Pablo Varillas 6-3, 6-2, 6-2, serving up seven aces, while landing 80% of his first serves, and maintaining a 84% win percentage when landing the first serve.

With this win, he breaks the tie with Rafael Nadal, by reaching the French Open quarterfinals for the 17th time. He is on track to become the first man to win at least three trophies from each Grand Slam tournament.

Khachanov Defeats Lorenzo Sonego

With a win on Sunday, Khachanov reached his third straight Grand Slam quarterfinal. But now he’ll go up against one of the best to ever play the sport, Djokovic.

The 27-year old has managed a win against the Serb. He defeated Djokovic to win the Rolex Paris Masters in 2018, but hasn’t figured out a way to beat him since.

After a tough opening match, where Khachanov managed to go down two sets, he’s found his rhythm, and has only dropped two sets since. After dropping the opening set against Sonego, Khachanov won the next three, while serving up 12 aces.

Tenth Meeting

These two players have seen a lot of each other over the past five years. Their first meeting happened back at Wimbledon in 2018, with their most recent happening last November at the Paris Masters. Last year alone, they faced each other four times.

Djokovic holds the 8-1 record, and has won all three matches that have been on clay.

Djokovic vs Khachanov Pick

Despite Djokovic being the heavy favorite here, I wouldn’t be so quick to write Khachanov off. Does he have enough to end Djokovic’s run in Paris? Probably not. But he might be able to take a set or two during this match.

As we’re down to the final eight players, each match should be an exciting one. This one is definitely highly anticipated, as well because it kicks off the quarterfinals of this year’s tournament.

Best Bet: Novak Djokovic 3-1 (+330) or Four sets total (+245)
