Djokovic Perfect Through Three

The 21-time Grand Slam champion has gone onto defeat Stefanos Tsitsipas, Andrey Rublev and Daniil Medvedev on his road to the semifinals.

He won his first two matches in straight sets, and found himself up against Medvedev, who was already out of the tournament, and was just playing to end his year on a winning note. After two loses, Medvedev had no chance of advancing. Despite not having the chance to advance, Medvedev still came out to play and managed to steal a set.

The Serb managed to take the first set fairly easily, but the Russian came out in the second, and found a way to force a decider. The third set went back-and-forth, but Medvedev was unable to serve out at 5-4. After the set went to tiebreak, Djokovic managed to run away with it. He won the match 6-3, 6(5)-7(7), 7(7)-6(2).

Fritz Finds A Way

The 25-year old American had an exciting match to start his tournament when he defeated Rafael Nadal in straight sets, winning 7(7)-6(3), 6-1.

He then went up against Casper Ruud on Tuesday, and ended up losing in three sets. This set him up for a must win situation against Felix Auger-Aliassime. The winner of the match was going to move on, and the loser was going to go home.

Both players put everything on the line as they battle for a spot in the semifinals. The two went back and forth throughout the match, but it was the American that was able to end up moving on, winning 7(7)-6(4), 6(5)-7(7), 6-2.

First Meeting of 2022

This will be the first time this year that Djokovic and Fritz go head-to-head, but they know each other fairly well. Last year alone, they faced each other three separate times.

Djokovic holds the head-to-head edge with a 5-0 lead over Fritz.

Djokovic vs Fritz Pick

If Djokovic wasn’t tested the way he was against Medvedev, he’d be a pretty easy bet here. But given that he was pushed to three sets, and had to fight hard from start to finish, the 35-year old is going to be battling a bit of fatigue. But the counterargument to that is that he’s still one of the top athletes on tour.

Fritz has played well this past week, and probably shocked himself when he started his tournament off by defeating Nadal. But the American will have to play at a high level from start to finish if he wants a chance against Djokovic.

But realistically, Djokovic will probably be the one to move on. But to make things interesting Fritz might steal a set, so look for the match to go the distance.

Best Bet: Over 2.5 sets (+155)
