Giorgi Hasn’t Dropped a Set
The 29-year old enters the quarterfinals of the Olympics having yet to drop a set in her three matches she played. She started off strong with a 6-3, 6-2 win over 11th seed Jennifer Brady of the United States, and most recently defeated fifth seed Pliskova in a 6-4, 6-2 win.

The Italian has definitely become one to watch as the competition gets tougher. She has dominated every match that she has played so far in Tokyo.
Svitolina Continues to go the Distance
Svitolina is no stranger to the Olympics, as she continues her journey to an Olympic medal. In 2016 she stunned heavy favorite Serena Williams, but was unable to earn a place on the podium. She’s still looking for Ukraine’s first ever Olympic medal in tennis.
She is now the highest seed left in the singles draw for the women, and has the opportunity to go the distance. Her three previous matches to get to the quarterfinals haven’t been her best. All three have taken three sets for her to win, with the last two matches having to be a comeback after she dropped the first set.

Svitolina did eventually defeat Maria Sakkari after dropping the first set to win 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.
She now finds herself going up against Giorgi, who she hasn’t seen in a while. And despite their head-to-head record split at 1-1, Giorgi has been making headlines in Tokyo.
Head-to-Head
The two players have seen each other on tour twice before, with the last match coming back in 2017. Svitolina captured the win in their first meeting way back in 2014, and Giorgi recorded the win in 2017.

Best Bet
A lot of players have struggled over the past few days with the weather conditions in Tokyo. It’s been extremely hot and humid, and have made the tennis conditions slow. But to Svitolina’s advantage, her game can thrive in those conditions. Giorgi does historically prefer faster surfaces.
Neither players’ serve has been an asset of theirs this week. But Svitolina managed to get her’s under control in her last match against Sakkari. If she can continue to keep it under control, that could be the biggest difference in the match. At the end of the day, Svitolina does have a more well-rounded style of play, and she’s quite quick. Whether it is controlling her serves, her net play, or ground strokes, she can find points all over the court.
I think Svitolina will record another match at these Olympics that will go three sets, but everything is pointing to her becoming one step closer to a medal.
Best Bet: Svitolina in three sets (+230)
