Odds as of August 29th at DraftKings

Camila Giorgi vs Simona Halep Prediction

Former World No. 1 Halep will open her US Open tournament against Camila Giorgi, marking her first Grand Slam appearance since competing in the Australian Open earlier this year.

Unfortunately Halep has had to take quite a bit of time off this year due to injuries, which has now led to be ranked outside the Top 10 since 2014.

Halep’s opponent Giorgi has been playing really well recently, and is coming off a title win in Montreal. In Montreal she went on to defeat four seeded players, and with her showing there, she earned a spot in the Top 50 this past month.

This will be the second meeting between the two. Their last meeting came back in 2015 in Miami, where Halep won in straight sets.

Despite the injuries, Halep seems to have the slight edge, given her past experience. If she can continue with her solid serve and groundstrokes, and shake off a bit of the rust that has come with her lack of matches this season, she should be be able to come out with the win.

Best Bet: Halep 2-0 (+140)

Madison Keys vs Sloane Stephens Prediction

It’s an all-American showdown in the first round of the Grand Slam as Keys and Stephens go head-to-head. These two are no strangers to one another, having played each other a total of six times already, including twice this year. Stephens leads the head-to-head 4-2.

They met in the Round of 32 in Charleston earlier this year where Stephens won in straight sets, and then again in the Round of 64 in Rome where Keys won in three.

Both have had a fairly similar year, and play a pretty similar game. Both players rely on their serves and groundstrokes. Regardless of the outcome of the match, this looks like it has the opportunity to go the distance.

Best Bet: Over 2.5 sets (+160)

Magda Linette vs Cori Gauff Prediction

Linette and Gauff will go head-to-head for the first time in their career on Monday. The two are set to take the court at 2:15 pm EST.

17-year old Gauff has been having a great year so far, showcasing her maturity and improvements in her game. She made her first Grand Slam quarterfinal earlier this year at the French Open, and collected a title in Parma.

The most recent news around Gauff was her having to pull out of the Olympics after testing positive for COVID-19. But she showed that she was able to bounce back and had a great showing in Montreal.

Gauff’s opponent Linette has had a less than ideal 2021 season. But she played decent tennis this past week and found herself in the final four, as she looks to carry that momentum into New York.

This does seem like it Gauff’s match to lose, but it’s possible Linette gives her a run.

Best Bet: Over 2.5 sets (+210)
