Odds as of September 1st at FanDuel

Ajla Tomljanovic vs [30] Petra Martic Prediction

This will be the third meeting between these two players, but they haven’t played each other since the qualifying round of the 2011 Australian Open. Martic does hold the head-to-head edge with a 2-0 record, but seeing that they haven’t played each other in over a decade, take that stat with a grain of salt.

Both Tomljanovic and Martic are coming off straight set first round wins over their opponents. Tomljanovic defeated American Katie Volynets 6-3, 6-1, and Martic went on to beat Dalma Galfi 6-3, 6-2.

Martic had struggled in her two previous tournaments leading up to the US Open, unable to make it past the Round of 64 at the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Masters. Tomljanovic on the other hand has had a few decent showings, but did retired in the first round of the Canadian Open in Montreal. But it actually wasn’t due to injury. Montreal had to issue an official heat warning for the city as temperatures rose to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Both these players have the ability to win the match, expect it to go the distance.

Best Bet: Over 2.5 sets (+114)

Shelby Rogers vs Sorana Cirstea Prediction

Rogers and Cirstea have had a similar year in terms of record, and their showings in the few tournaments leading up to the US Open. Cirstea has captured a title this year, winning the Istanbul Open in April, whereas Rogers hasn’t been able to this year. But neither player was able to make it past the Round of 32 in their three tournaments prior to the Grand Slam.

This will be the second meeting between Rogers and CIrstea, and Rogers holds the 1-0 record. Their last meeting came back in 2016, where Rogers won the semifinals of the Rio Open in straight sets.

Rogers will have the home crowd here in New York, but once again, regardless of the winner here, look for this match to go the distance.

Best Bet: Over 2.5 sets (+110)

[28] Anett Kontaveit vs Jil Teichmann Prediction

This second round match will be the second meeting between Kontaveit and Teichmann. Their own and only meeting happened in 2020. Kontaveit won that Cincinnati Masters Round of 32 match in straight sets.

Both players started their tournament off strong with straight set victories over their respected opponent. Kontaveit had an impressive serve during her match which saw her win 77 percent of first serve points, and not drop a serve all match. Teichmann also had a great serve during her opening round match, but she also managed to add to her 2021 hard court win record. Her 2021 record is now 19-14, with 16 of those wins coming on the hard surface.

Kontaveit is entering the tournament as the slight favorite. The 25-year old is coming off winning a trophy at the Cleveland Championships, and looks to continue her win streak in New York. Although Teichmann is not coming off a title win, she’s coming off a finals appearance at the Cincinnati Masters where she defeated Naomi Osaka, Belinda Bencic, and Karolina Pliskova, before losing to Ashleigh Barty in the finals.

Teichmann will look to continue her impressive run on the hard court surface, and avenge the loss to Kontaveit from last year.

Best Bet: Teichmann (+114)
