A Battle of WNBA’s Top Offenses

Both Washington (7-7) and Dallas (7-8) come into Saturday floating around the middle of the WNBA standings with both squads having gone 6-4 over their last 10 games. The two teams also feature a few of the top offenses in the league through the first one-third of the regular season.

The Wings come into the game ranking third in the WNBA in points per game (84.5), while the Mystics enter fifth with 83 points per game. On the other side of the floor, Dallas ranks seventh in points allowed (81.4 per game) and Washington ranks ninth (83.4 per game). That means this contest could be a high-scoring affair on Saturday.

For the Mystics, they have been led by Tina Charles and Ariel Atkins all season long. Charles has been outstanding, averaging 25.3 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists a game, while Atkins is averaging 17.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists.

The Wings have been led by Arike Ogunbowale with 19.6 points, 3.6 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game, followed by Marina Mabrey with 15.3 points and 4.9 rebounds and Satou Sabally with 13.3 points and 5.9 rebounds a game.

This game will be an entertaining, high-scoring showdown between two talented offenses. Although both teams have been playing well as of late, Washington will have the upper hand if Charles can continue her dominant play as of late, and Dallas might have a hard time containing the future Hall of Famer in the game.

Liberty, Dream Looking to Get Back on Track

In the second game of the doubleheader on Saturday, New York (7-8) and Atlanta (5-8) aim to get back on track with both squads riding two-game losing streaks ahead of the matchup.

The Liberty have struggled since starting the year off strong, having lost seven of their last 10 games. New York has been headlined by Betnijah Laney, who is averaging a team-high 19.4 points, 5.1 assists and 4.2 rebounds. The absence of Natasha Howard (knee) and the recent inconsistencies of Sabrina Ionescu have resulted in New York struggling as of late.

Much like the Liberty, the Dream have struggled as of late and are also dealing with injury issues currently. Atlanta, which has lost six of its last 10 games, is without leading scorer Tiffany Hayes (knee) for the next few weeks. Without Hayes, look for Courtney Williams and Chennedy Carter to continue to try and lead the way. Williams is averaging 17.5 points and 6.9 rebounds, followed by Carter with 15.7 points and 3.6 assists a game.

Although both teams are shorthanded right now, Atlanta is dealing with the bigger loss of Hayes compared to the injuries New York is facing. Look for the Liberty to end their losing streak and get back on track on the road Saturday.

Best Bet of the Night

Coming into Saturday, both home teams of Dallas and Atlanta are favored among the betting odds. The Wings are more heavily favored over the Mystics than the Dream are over the Liberty in the two contests.

While placing your bets, it’s worth keeping in mind that Washington has been playing well as of late, coming away with some impressive victories recently behind the play of Charles and company. That reason makes the Mystics and Wings spread an interesting one, as Washington could easily cover that spread. For the best bet, go with the Mystics as underdogs.

  • The Pick: Mystics +5.5 (-114)
