The Storm enter the contest still looking for their first win of the year while holding a record of 0-2 while remaining as one of two teams in the WNBA still without a win (Minnesota, 0-4 overall). Seattle is coming off of a 95-91 loss to Dallas last Friday in Seattle.

Leading up to the game, oddmakers favor New York in this game — as expected — while having the Liberty as 15-point favorites.

Stewart’s Return to Seattle

Tuesday’s game will not only be the first meeting of the season between New York and Seattle, but it will mark the first meeting of the year for Liberty star Breanna Stewart and her old team in Seattle.

Stewart, who spent the first six years of her WNBA career in Seattle where she earned four All-Star selections and won two WNBA titles and one WNBA MVP award, left the Storm this offseason to sign with New York to form a superteam in the Big Apple.

Tuesday’s nationally televised game will be the first time Stewart steps on the court in Seattle with a new team, which should make for an emotional night both for the former league MVP and the Storm fans in attendance. It will be interesting to watch how Stewart handles those emotions of being back in front her old fans for the first time.

New-Look Squads

Both New York and Seattle feature much different-looking rosters in 2023 than what we saw a season ago. That means it’s very hard to use last year’s results between the two squads as a measurement for what we could see this season because it will likely be flipped.

For the Liberty, they formed a superteam this offseason while adding the likes of Stewart, Jonquel Jones and Courtney Vandersloot to join the talents of Sabrina Ionescu, Betnijah Laney and others in New York. The Liberty are already at the top of the 2023 WNBA Championship odds a little over a week into the season.

For the Storm, they are a new-look team for the other reason. Seattle saw some key players leave the team over the offseason, notably Stewart leaving to New York in free agency and Sue Bird retiring. The Storm are clearly rebuilding while Jewell Loyd and Ezi Magbegor now lead the way for the new-look Seattle squad in 2023.

Key to the Game

The biggest key to the game will be Stewart, plain and simple. She will not only be the centerpiece of all the attention on Tuesday night back at her old home, but she will be a key aspect to New York coming away with the win as she has been all season long.

Stewart has been off to a hot start for her new team, averaging 26 points, 10 rebounds, 3.7 assists, three steals and 1.7 blocks over three games. She is tied for second in the WNBA in scoring, third in rebounds, tied for first in steals and tied for eighth in blocks.

Liberty vs Storm Picks

Oddsmakers believe the game Monday night will go heavily in New York’s favor with the Liberty as double-digit favorites, and that’s likely what we will end up seeing on the court in Seattle. The Liberty are just too talented and the Storm don’t have enough firepower to keep pace with New York, meaning this game could get out of reach early.

For the best bet of the night in your Liberty vs Storm picks, go with the under listed of 162.5. Any game New York plays in has a good chance of going over that mark, but with Seattle likely struggling and the game probably resulting in a large lead for New York, the Liberty could coast in the second half leading to the two teams combining for the under.

  • The Pick: Under 162.5 (-110)
