Playoff spots are on the line as the XFL enters its penultimate regular season week. The most compelling match on the four-game slate takes place last, as St. Louis can clinch the North’s final playoff spot by knocking off Seattle. Read on for an analysis of XFL Week 9.

Arlington can also secure a playoff berth with a win and some help, but they’re currently Week 9’s biggest underdog.

XFL Week 9 – Vegas Vipers vs Houston Roughnecks Picks

We’ve been fading Houston successfully recently, on the premise that their hot start was the product of a cupcake schedule.

That seems to be accurate, as the Roughnecks have gone 1-3 in their last four games against tougher competition. They’ve scored less than 18 points in three of those four contests, failing to cover each time.

Their opponent Vegas has shown signs of life over the second half of the season, winning twice in their past four games, and pushing St. Louis to the brink last week.

Jalan McClendon has solidified the Vipers QB position, throwing for 423 yards and two scores over his first two starts of the season. Those outings resulted in back-to-back covers for Vegas, and they should be able to stay close to an overrated Houston team in this matchup.

Pick: Vegas Vipers +6.5

XFL Week 9 – Orlando Guardians vs San Antonio Brahmas Picks

If San Antonio is on the schedule you better believe the under is in play. Per the XFL Stats, the Brahmas are 7-1 to the under this season, thanks to a quality defense and an anemic offense.

San Antonio leads the league in points against, while ranking second last in points for. They’ve scored just 10 offensive touchdowns, 12 fewer than their opponent Orlando.

The Guardians lit up DC for 37 points two weeks ago en route to the upset win, but came crashing back down to earth in Week 8. They managed only 16 points, while committing five turnovers and absorbing four sacks.

That performance is closer to what we’ve seen for most of the season from Orlando, and we should expect points to be tough to come by versus this elite Brahmas defense.

Pick: Under 39.5

XFL Week 9 – Arlington Renegades vs DC Defenders Picks

No team in the XFL has scored fewer points than the Renegades. Sure, they looked marginally better last week with Luis Perez under center, but that was against the lowly Guardians.

Now they have to face a strong DC defense. The Defenders, the leaders in the XFL Championship odds, are top-three in takeaways, sacks and tackles for loss. They’ve struggled over the past four weeks, but that was versus three of the league’s top-four offenses outside of themselves.

On the other side of the ball, defense is Arlington’s bread and butter. Only San Antonio has yielded fewer points, while six of the Renegades eight contests have fallen short of the total.

Pick: Under 41.5

Seattle Sea Dragons vs St. Louis BattleHawks

As for the game of the week, both teams enter in great form. The Sea Dragons have won five of six, falling by just a single point last week to DC. Seattle elected to go for two in the final seconds instead of forcing OT, but came up just short.

The Sea Dragons feature the league’s most productive passer in Ben DiNucci, and the XFL’s number three offense. They had the BattleHawks on the ropes in their first meeting back in Week 2, but turnovers and a game-winning drive led by A.J. McCarron sunk their fate.

XFL Championship Odds

Player Odds
DC Defenders +125
Houston Roughnecks +250
St. Louis BattleHawks +425
Seattle Sea Dragons +550
Arlington Renegades +1000
San Antonio Brahmas +5000

St. Louis has won three straight, and lead the league in takeaways. They’ve held four of their past five opponents below 18 points, while no team has thrown more picks than Seattle.

Turnovers could once again decide this matchup and it should be noted that the BattleHawks have one of the lowest giveaway rates in the XFL. Expect them to squeak out another close victory.

Pick: St. Louis BattleHawks -1.5
