Historical Calder Trophy Odds from Past Seasons

  • This page archives the NHL Calder Trophy (rookie of the year) odds for past seasons, including opening prices, mid-season swings, and closing numbers
  • Lane Hutson won the 2025 Calder, the latest in a run of defensemen taking the rookie award
  • Want the current Calder Trophy odds instead? Head over to the live futures board.

The Calder goes to the NHL’s top first-year player, and the rookie market might be the most volatile award on the board. A hot start can turn a longshot into a favorite by December, an injury can crater a frontrunner overnight, and mid-season call-ups keep scrambling the picture.

One eligibility quirk shapes every race: a player can’t have appeared in more than 25 games in any single earlier pro season. This page is the record, with each completed season below, the chart showing how the market moved, a recap of how the winner got there, dated movement notes, and the closing odds.

Lane Hutson turned a quiet preseason price into one of the best rookie seasons Montreal has seen in decades. The puck-moving defenseman opened as a +1000 longshot in October and closed as the runaway 2025 Calder winner.

The race belonged to others for months. Matvei Michkov opened as the favorite, then Macklin Celebrini took over through the winter. Hutson didn’t grab the top spot for good until late March, then bolted clear at -1000 on the strength of 59 points.

Below is how the 2025 rookie race played out.
