The Colorado State Rams (4-6, 3-3 MW) take to the road on Friday night for a Mountain West showdown with the Wyoming Cowboys (6-4, 3-3 MW) at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie (9:30 PM ET, Nov. 21st).

The two teams are currently tied for fourth place in the Mountain division of the Mountain West behind Boise State, Air Force, and Utah State.

Like many rivalries across college football, this one has a nickname: the Border War. The schools are separated by a mere 65 miles and the winner receives the Bronze Boot.

Tough Year for the Rams

Colorado State got off to a miserable start in 2019, losing five of its first six games. The lone win during that span was a 38-13 victory over Western Illinois, a team that is currently 1-10. Fortunately for the Rams, things have been much better recently as they’ve won three out of their last four games, all of which were conference wins. A loss to Air Force last week to snap their three-game winning streak.

The Rams have one of the top passing offenses in the country, ranking No. 12 in passing yards per game. Warren Jackson, a 6’6″ junior, is one of the top wide receivers in the country

Wyoming has Suffered Two Heartbreaking Losses Recently

The Cowboys began the season 6-1, including a win over Missouri of the SEC. Their first loss of the season was an ugly one, falling to Tulsa back on September 21. Wyoming was 6-2 heading into huge games against Boise State and Utah State. Unfortunately for the Cowboys, they dropped heartbreaking one-possession games to both and were essentially eliminated from winning the Mountain West. 

While Colorado State loves to move the ball through the air, Wyoming has an outstanding running game. The Cowboys rank No. 20 in rushing offense, averaging almost 220 yards per game. Their ground game is led by quarterback Sean Chambers and running back Xazavian Valladay. A fun fact about Wyoming: leading receiver Raghib Ismail Jr. is son of NFL legend Raghib “Rocket” Ismail.

The Cowboys are currently a touchdown favorite and that’s been fairly consistent. At home this season, the Cowboys are 5-0, while the Rams are 2-2 on the road. Though the Cowboys have won the previous three meetings, Colorado State did win two of its previous three trips to Laramie. In three of Colorado State’s four wins, it was the favorite. The Rams have won once as underdogs, defeating Fresno State.
